Congressman Lewis: Quote of the Week

Lewis, the Redlands Republican, who voted Thursday for an appropriations bill to fund troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and co-sponsored a separate package that would enhance GI benefits - essentially providing a free college education to veterans.
I am glad the Sun chose such an honorable man for their quote of the week, especially regarding such a patriotic bill. We are lucky to have such a true public servant representing us. Kudos to him- and all the other Congressmembers- who supported this bill. I am sure our American heroes are grateful for the recognition of their sacrifice and patriotism.
This is why many sports ban the use of performance enhancing drugs. Another form of doping is blood...
I'm glad Mr. Lewis is supporting enhanced G.I. Bill benefits, including a free college education (the same benefit that was in the original G.I. Bill).
I'm wondering if he can explain why the Bush Administration and Defense Department have opposed this legislation.
Once our brave servicemen and women come home, the Bush White House has a tendency to forget about them. (Another example is the deplorable state of veterans medical care in places like Walter Reed.)
President Bush had a choice: Tax cuts or decent medical care and other benefits for veterans. He chose tax cuts. Wrong choice.
