Former State Senator Jim Brulte Comments on State Budget Woes

Former Republican lawmaker, Jim Brulte, had some harsh words for our state legislators this past weekend. Brulte served as the Republican leader for both the state Assembly and Senate, and still remains a political powerhouse.
From the Press Enterprise:
Filling in for Gov. Schwarzenegger in his weekly radio address Saturday, Brulte chastised lawmakers of both parties for criticizing the governor's budget plans while failing to put up their own proposals.
"And it's much easier for legislators, especially those posturing for re-election, to complain about what they don't like, as opposed to praising what they do like," said Brulte, who led Assembly and Senate Republicans in budget talks in the 1990s and earlier this decade.
"The Republicans say: 'There aren't enough cuts.' The Democrats say: 'This has too many cuts, we just need to raise taxes' -- as if raising taxes was the solution to everything," he said.
"So let's quit the posturing, Sacramento. Roll up your sleeves, hunker down and get to work," Brulte said, according to an advance transcript of the remarks.
These are some words of wisdom indeed. State legislators complaining about their budget kind of remind you of the people who compain about politics... yet don't vote. Here's some more words of wisdom: "Be the change you wish to see in the world." Let's just hope, for our sakes, that doesn't include more taxes. Afterall- we don't have a budget problem, we have a spending problem.
