BOS 3 Mailox: Independent Expenditure Against Derry Funded by Insiders (Updated)
Posted by: SB Veritas | 05/23/2008 10:15 AM
Research of County records this morning shows that a newly-formed committee opposing Board of Supervisors candidate Neil Derry is funded by County insiders, an Assemblyman who has stated he would like the same seat in 2012, and a labor union supporting incumbent Dennis Hansberger.
The Form 460 filed by San Bernardino County Taxpayers Association, ID #1304420, listed out of Grand Terrace, CA has been funded with $110,000 from the following sources.
San Bernardino County Young Republicans (Controlled by Biane Chief of Staff Matt Brown) - $40,000
Committee to Elect Paul Biane - $15,000
Committee to Elect Gary C. Ovitt - $15,000
Josie Gonzales for Supervisor - $15,000 (Verified)
Bill Emmerson for Assembly 2008 - $5,000
San Bernardino Public Employees' Association - $10,000
Committee to Elect Dick Larsen - $10,000 (Loan)
As of 5/17/08, the Taxpayers Committee had expended over $57,000 with just under $53,000 on hand. Of interesting note, $12,500 was paid to Presson & Associates of Sacramento, CA. Presson is the consultant to Assessor Bill Postmus and was the primary campaign consultant to former 2nd District Supervisor Jon Mikels.
Two hit mailers critical of a pay raise vote and expense reimbursements by Derry was sent to Third District voters over a week ago.
Insiders apparently want the status quo maintained. However Third District voters make that decision, not the Board of Supervisors.
First district Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt did not participate in the bash Derry party.

Just curious, SB Veritas, Bob Blough has taken an especially keen interest in defeating Neil Derry, which is strange for an employees union considering Dennis Hansberger has been one of the most anti-employee supervisors in memory, at least in terms of the general membership employees. At one point he was claiming to have kissed and made up with you and you guys were all going to work together. What's happened?
Sharon,
Blough has sold his soul for Hansberger's alleged support in attaining a new contract that hasn't materialized. Bob has been working together with the union's on several issues to his credit. Unfortunately for SBPEA his lack of political insight is very evident.
He's been saying that Derry can't win, but gives no reasoning for his position. SEBA and the Public Attorney's Association are significantly more astute and realize that change is needed.
Derry has a significant lead over Hansberger and it's expanding daily. He will prevail on June 3. Third District voters want a change and are going to bring it on.
Thanks for your question.
Well, I'm sure some of my supporters are convinced that my extreme disdain for Bob Blough is clouding my judgment, but I genuinely hope you guys win. Good luck!
