In case you missed it:
Today the Sacramento-based publication Capitol Weekly highlighted the stance of Assembly District 60 candidate Larry Dick on the issue of Indian Gaming. Larry Dick is one of two candidates for the GOP nomination to replace departing incumbent Bob Huff in the solidly Republican 60th Assembly District.
At a recent candidates forum featuring Larry Dick and his opponent, Chino Hills Mayor Curt Hagman, Larry Dick discussed the issue of Indian Gaming and his thoughts on potential gambling expansion. Larry Dick not only responded less than favorably twaords the idea of both increased Indian Gaming, but also appeared in opposition to the concept of Native gambling in general.
According to the Capitol Weekly's report, here is Larry Dick's response to a question on Indian Gaming:
Well boys and girls, it's time to play everyone's favorite Roundup game. It's time for another tantalizing round of Meet Your Would-be Assemblymember. In today's edition we meet Larry Dick, who's running in the 60th Assembly District in Orange County. Mr. Dick was asked about his thoughts on Indian gaming, and came up with a response that, well, wasn't exactly the most culturally sensitive.
Dick: I am a pretty firm believer in local control, but you know there's some things that don't belong to local control because there's already laws in place. It's a little challenging for me that Tommy Two Trees can open a casino, and Tommy Houllihan can't. But that's not a choice that I get a voice in. These Indian nations have been named a sovereign nation by the federal government. I have a friend of mine that suggests the answer may be to require a passport to go to Pechanga.
Hmmm, guess that tribal endorsement is out of the question...
Capitol Weekly even included a link to video goodness on Larry Dick's answer, which can be accessed here.
According to previously published reports on the candidates forum in question, the Larry Dick response on Indian Gaming was delivered at the conclusion of a rather cordial affair between the two Assembly hopefuls. It remains to be seen how Larry Dick's response will resonate with influential California Republicans such as Senate Minority leader Dick Ackerman and Assemblymember Huff who are strongly backing upcoming referendum on increased tribal gaming operations in the Golden State.

The key to this story is the highly questionable (some would say racist) remark about "Tommy Two Trees" - - what was this guy thinking?
He was just joking or being a funny politician. Larry had hard time understanding important issues concerning our state during the entire debate. Therefore, we expect many OC residents to support Hagman in this election. Curt is clearly better prepared to be our next Assemblyman at Sacramento. Curt, win!
Larry should call Diane Harkey and ask her how to weather a half million dollar negative IE in a tight race. I am sad to say that I think Larry is done.
