Just posted on the official Congressional website of Republican US Representative David Dreier (CD 26) are the Congressman's thoughts on the assassination of Pakistan's leading opposition leader Benazir Bhutto. Bhutto was slain today by militants in the Pakistan city of Rawalpindi.
Here are Congressman Dreier's remarks on the tragedy in Pakistan:
"The assasination of Benazir Bhutto is a tragedy for her family, the people of Pakistan, and the cause of democracy and rule of law. I met with Ms. Bhutto at her home earlier this month as part of the first Congressional delegation to meet with her after her return to Pakistan. She was determined to achieve democracy for her people, and to continue fighting terrorist extremists. Her death must not derail her hopes for a democratic future for her country. She dedicated her entire life to this cause, and she has now been killed in service of it. Today's events are a stark reminder that the war against terrorist extremists continues, and must be won."
