Tis the season for endless (yet important) reports on presidential polling.
As participants in Iowa's partisan caucuses gear up for the January 3 date of the event that will begin the process of selecting delegates for party presidential nominations, a new poll shows US Senator Barack Obama of neighboring Illinois moving to a 7-point lead among likely Democratic caucus-goers.
The survey, done by Strategic Vision, is the first public poll showing a lead for Obama.
Among Republican caucus-goers, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has a statistically insignificant three-point edge over former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.
Here are the GOP results:
Huckabee: 27%
Romney: 24%
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani: 13%
Former US Senator Fred Dalton Thompson of Tennessee: 11%
US Senator John McCain of Arizona: 6%
Congressman Ron Paul of Texas: 5%
Iowa Dems:
Obama: 32%
US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton: 25%
Former US Senator John Edwards of North Carolina: 25%
Results are based on telephone interviews with 600 likely Republican caucus goers and 600 likely Democratic caucus goers, aged 18+, and conducted November 30 - December 2, 2007. The margin of sampling error is ±4.5 percentage points.
