In case you missed it:
First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt has jumped to an impressive start in his 2008 campaign. The Victor Valley Daily Press, the largest newspaper in his district, is reporting that he has now amassed a $650,000 campaign warchest.
The staggering and record-shattering amount has been raised in support of the appointed incumbent's election bid this June.
Read an excerpt from the column "Politically Speaking" by the V V Daily Press' Ryan Orr (sorry, not available on the paper's online edition):
To Victorville and beyond
San Bernardino County 1st District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt held a fundraiser last week at the Hilton Garden Inn where Victorville Mayor Terry Caldwell proudly proclaimed, "Welcome to Victorville: the center of the universe."
Keynote speaker and San Bernardino County District Attorney Michael A. Ramos, said he almost agreed that Victorville was the center of the universe since he had hired his assistant district attorney out of the city prosecutor's office.
Did I miss something?
Don't get me wrong, Victorville is great. But if it's really the center of the universe? Remind me not to tour the rest of the galaxy.State Sen. George Runner held a fundraiser last week at Apple Valley Mayor Rick Roelle's house while former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney held one in Riverside to build his war chest for the presidential primary.
The next morning Brad Mitzelfelt netted roughly $71,000 at a breakfast fundraiser.
Mitzelfelt now has more than $650,000 to go towards his 2008 bid for county supervisor and expects to hit $1 million by the spring.
