Red County Shines In Covering Indictment Of Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona

Posted by: SB Insider | 10/31/2007 11:46 AM

Ocblog_2 You got to hand it to Red County San Bernardino blogfather OC Blog.

Late Monday evening, as news first broke in the Los Angeles Times that Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona was to be formally indicted on multiple felonies relating to conduct in his office, the OC Blog reported on the Times story and offered its readers the actual link to the source material.

On Tuesday October 30, as the indictment was unsealed, the OC Blog provided nine stories and further reports on Carona's seven-count indictment. Not bad coverage of a potentially embarrassing story for many Orange County public officials  - including many orange County Republican Party luminaries - who have long been acquainted with Sheriff Carona.

As the OC Blog openly identifies itself as "center right" and features several leading Orange County Republican opinion leaders and commentators, their decision to offer in-depth analysis of the Carona story and provide news stories prove that the OC Blog - like many of its affiliates - are not merely in existence to promote the advancement of the Republican Party and its causes and candidates.

Rather the OC Blog, like Red County San Bernardino, is serving to provide news and opinion from an admitted conservative viewpoint - and without shying away from stories and editorials that cast friends and allies in an unflattering light. Activists on the left side of the political spectrum have also entered the blogosphere, a leading site can be found here.

While other Orange County-based websites have chosen to deliberately downplay, ignore or bury the earth-shattering story of the county's top lawman indicted on federal public corruption charges by a Republican Justice Department (the lead story on one such weblog today is a report from an Orange County political insiders' Halloween party. Seriously.), the OC Blog has stood out in its attempt to inform its readership of breaking news and opinion on a developing story.

The OC Blog should be proud of their reporting and coverage of a major breaking news story in their county.
