The following press release arrived in the transom of the virtual office of Red County San Bernardino earlier this morning. However, following two breaking news stories for this site's readership prevented the site from posting it sooner.
Incumbent San Bernardino City Clerk Rachel Clark issued a press release in which she announces endorsements from four Republican San Bernardino city councilmembers. Clark, a Democrat, is up for re-election to the non-partisan post in November 2007.
A short while ago, Ms. Clark's opponent, Joseph Turner, posted his opinion on this release here. However, in accordance with this site's stated goal of offering candidates the ability to offer campaign materials, in which we publish free of commentary to our website's readership, here is the media release from the Clark campaign:
Local Republicans Endorse San Bernardino City Clerk Rachel Clark; Opponent Turner Condemned
Local Republican officials are supporting the re-election of incumbent San Bernardino City Clerk City Rachel Clark.
Republican City Councilmembers Tobin Brinker (3rd Ward), Neil Derry (4th Ward), Chas Kelley (5th Ward) and Wendy McCammack (7th Ward) have all crossed party lines to endorse Clark’s re-election to the non-partisan, administrative post of City Clerk.
“I am proud to support our City Clerk Rachel Clark. She is a capable and honest public servant who deserves the support of our entire community,” said 5th Ward Councilman Chas Kelley.
“Rachel Clark is doing a good job for the people of San Bernardino,” stated 3rd Ward Councilman Brinker. “We need her continued service at City Hall.”
Brinker also condemned Clark’s opponent in the November 2007 election. “Joe Turner represents the worst inclinations of modern politics. He attacks. He vilifies. He uses fear and prejudice to advance his causes. Most sadly…he is attacking a wonderful public servant in Rachel Clark.”
“Our city must continue its positive focus on reducing crime in our neighborhoods and creating jobs for our people,” declared 7th Ward Councilwoman Wendy McCammack. “The last thing San Bernardino needs is a divisive national media circus rearing its ugly head in our local election.”
“I strongly urge Rachel’s opponent to withdraw his candidacy. She is going to win re election in a landslide,” said 4th Ward Councilman Neil Derry.
