Large_43489_5 Tomorrow is May 1st and pro immigrant marches are planned throughout the United States (The Press Enterprise outlines the possible SB County walkouts here). On Spanish language radio there are countless calls being made to "boycott the system."  There is much talk about "crippling the economy."  Last year I heard PARENTS on Spanish language radio saying they would keep their kids out of school.

The same call is going out again.

Regardless of where parents stand on the immigration issue, it is WRONG to tell your kids to stay out of school tomorrow.  What did the kids gain last year as they walked the WRONG side of the FREEWAY? Did this help them with their college applications?  Did this get them a higher AP score?  According to my teens, many of the kids are using May 1st as an excuse to ditch school.  All that the kids will achieve by ditching school is having a truancy on your record.

My suggestion to the kids is regarding May 1st:

Go to school, get an education, become involved, better yourself--don't ditch school.  You are only hurting yourself in the long run.
