In a separate article the Desert Sun mentioned that Lt. Gov. John Garamendi and the Progressive Majority are backing Cathedral City Councilman Greg Pettis for the 80th Assembly seat and Senate Majority Leader Gloria Romero, as well as labor leader and civil rights advocate Dolores Huerta, are backing Manuel Perez for the 80th Assembly.

But even as the Perez and Pettis fight it out for the Democratic nomination, to the delight of Republican nominee Gary Jeandron, the Democrats have lost candidate Eloise Garcia-Mohsin who announced her short-lived campaign has come to an end.

80th Assembly: The campaign that almost was
Shortly after coming in last in the race for Palm Springs City Council last fall, Eloise Garcia-Mohsin announced on mydesert.com that she was running for the 80th Assembly.

She warned we'd have to "wait and see" what set her apart from the rest of the pack.

We did.

But that was the last we heard from her until last week's blog that she wasn't entering the race after all.

"I could be in a litigation that would distract a campaign," she wrote, adding she'll stay involved with volunteering instead."
