Bono-Mack Opponent Calls GOP Fools, Then Pledges To "Keep It Clean"

Bono2.jpgPaul Clay is the Democrat Murrieta school teacher running to be the nominee to challenge U.S. Rep. Mary Bono-Mack.  In Clay's call for an "honest campaign" and to "keep it clean" he follows up by saying, "...let the other side look like fools if they want to,"

It's not front page news, but what an interesting tone to take in a call for civility.

The first Democrat to challenge U.S. Rep. Mary Bono Mack has a simple New Year's resolution:

Keep it clean.

In an e-mail to supporters last week, congressional challenger Paul Clay urged people to "keep the campaign honest, clean and dedicated to addressing the issues."

"In this upcoming election year, I ask all of my supporters to show restraint and self-discipline by steering clear of making any public statement that is not supported by absolute fact, and let the other side look like fools if they want to," the Murrieta school teacher stated in the e-mail.

Clay also pledges to keep discussions focused on Bono Mack's public life - her support of the Iraq war, her voting record on Capitol Hill and the like - and away from the Palm Springs Republican's personal life.

"We need to stay on the moral high ground on this issue," Clay states.

We'd love to see mud-free, issues-oriented campaigns abound in 2008. But we're covering the newsroom in plastic, just in case.

Actually the Desert Sun did make it front page news on the front page of the Local section. Good or bad the Desert Sun uses the Congresswoman to sell papers.
