Neil Blais Silent On Enviro Crazed Dems

Posted by: Phil Paule | 05/16/2007 8:33 PM

Last week Corona Congressman Ken Calvert and San Diego Congressman Darrell Issa (I work for him) put up a hard fought fight to try and stop the envio crazed Democrats from stopping completion on the 214 toll road in south Orange County.

What does this have to do with Riverside you ask? Well 71st Assembly candidate Neil Blais who sits on the TCA (the toll road board) did not raise a peep as the Democrats shut down his road.   This speaks volumes about Blais.  It tells me that if Blais is elected to the Assembly he will be a lap dog for the Democrats- afraid to speak up for his constituents.

Right now the 71st is represented by a great fighter -Assemblyman Todd Spitzer who stands up for what is right no matter the personal consequences (like being placed in the smallest office in the Capitol) If Blais can’t even stand up and fight the liberals on desperately needed roads, how can we trust him on standing up on issues like public safety and taxes.  We need fighters in the Legislature not people just there to collect their per diem and cut ribbons at chamber events.

You can't trust him. His silence speaks volumes.

Maybe that's why Jeff Miller is emerging as the consensus choice of Republicans in both Riverside and Orange Counties as the true common sense conservative alternative to liberal Neil Blais.

Blais is the kind of Republican that is killing our Party. He has a nice smile and shakes a great hand, but when it comes to standing for conservative principles they run for the tall grass and pee themselves.

As a big fan of Steve Greenhut's, I'd like to comment on his statement about Todd Spitzer and a post on his Orange Punch Blog today...

I rarely disagree with Greenhut, but on this one, I feel compelled to express my opinion.

For the past several months, I have watched Todd Spitzer stand up and fight on the Assembly Floor, and in the press, to ensure that prisoners are not released into our communities from California prisons before their sentences are completed.

I have also witnessed the Legislative Democrats as they dragged their feet, waiting and hoping that no solution to our prison over-crowding was ever reached.

I'm aware that it is unbelievable that anyone would want serious and violent prisoners to be released into our communities early. But, in Sacramento, it is truly the case. For whatever reason, some Legislative Democrats have refused to take action on our prison over-crowding crisis. They have spent the last several months waiting for the Federally appointed receiver to determine that California was unwilling to take measures to fix our prison over-crowding problem.

While Republicans often introduce legislation to increase penalties, none of those bills have passed the legislature. Our current prison over-crowding problem is a result of population growth in California and the absolute refusal of the majority party to build any additional prisons to accommodate that growth. As a matter of fact, even though our crime rate has decreased in the past 15 years, our prison population had increased due to population growth. And, we have not built one new prison to accommodate that growth in the past 15 years.

Todd Spitzer has been the most noticeable and vocal thorn in the side of Legislative Democrats who would have preferred to do nothing. At every opportunity, he has spoken on the Assembly Floor in an attempt to shine a bright light on the fact that our majority party has been reluctant to negotiate a solution to this impending problem. Admittedly, at times Spitzer has seemed abrasive and unyielding in his comments about Legislative Democrats, but it has been in his attempt to stop 23,000 prisoners from being released from prison early.

Ironically enough, today -- May 16, 2007 -- was the deadline the Receiver gave our legislature to come up with a solution to our over-crowding crisis. If a solution were not reached by today, 23,000 prisoners would have been released into our communities.

Some have said that we should allow the Democrats to release the prisoners into our communities, and then hold the Democrats accountable when these prisoners committed horrible acts upon residents in our communities. It is true, Legislative Democrats would have paid a political price when prisoners were released and they committed horrible acts. But, at what cost? Whose family would suffer to prove this point? Whose children would be injured or killed to prove that Legislative Democrats didn't do their job by negotiating a solution?

I am of the opinion that it is the primary duty of the legislature to protect our citizens from people who would do them harm. I believe that it is the duty of our legislature to keep these prisoners in prison until they have finished their sentences. This, first and foremost, beyond political gain or advantage, must be the job of those who we elect to protect us -- against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic.

It is my opinion that the our legislature would not have arrived at such a responsible, comprehensive prison bond package as we did a couple weeks ago if Todd Spitzer were not willing to stand up at every opportunity, at his own expense, and fight to ensure that these prisoners were not released early from prison.

I would not expect anyone to take these comments as fact just because I have written them. I would suggest that if you do not believe what I have said I have witnessed in the Legislature over the past several months, ask ANY Legislative Republican if he or she believes that Todd Spitzer was an integral part of our legislature coming up with a solid solution to our prison over-crowding crisis. I do not believe that you can find a Republican who will deny the critical role Todd played in ensuring that these criminals are not released from prison.

I personally believe that Todd is less worried about his new, tiny office than he was about ensuring that our state didn't release 23,000 prisoners early into our communities.

Today, California is a safer place today due to Spitzer's belligerence.

11:20- What would have happened if Neil Blais was up there? Phil has a good point. Probably 23,000 prisoners would have been released.

Phil Paule (who's wife fundraises for Jeff Miller) once again has his facts incorrect.

Blais is NOT RSM's representative on the Foothill-Eastern TCA Board. Jim Thor is. Blais is an alternate on the currently dormant TCS board, the joint agency formed several years ago studying the then proposed merger of the two toll roads. Maybe a small detail, but none-the-less, a factual error that shows that Phil Paule has no credibility when he can't get the facts correct.

As far as silence on the 241 issue, not so. I talked to his campaign this morning and Blais has done four things so far-

He has submitted an editorial to the OC Register on the subject (which has not been published).

He has co-signed, along with a host of South OC city officials a letter to Senators Feinstein and Boxer protesting this action, and requesting it be removed from the bill when it gets to them (assuming it remains when it leaves the house)

He has personaaly contacted Congressman Gary Miller to ensure his efforts are focused on the House floor on removing this amendment when the final bill is voted next week.

And, last night, at a city council budget meeting, he requested, and obtained an emergency action to pass a city resolution condemming the actions taken by Davis and Sanchez. This resolution will be sent to every congressman/woman in Orange, Riverside and San Diego counties.

Short of getting on an airplane and knocking on the door of every congressman in Washington, what else is there to do?

And what has Jeff Miller done- ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I don't think Miller even knows where Foothill-South is, because he has never shown any interest in it. Where is the City of Corona's resolution of protest?

Phil, if your candidate really is that desperate for you to post this garbage, then maybe he should just get out of the race while he still can before he gets further embarrassed by your stupid diatribes.

Karl: Miller is a leader on transportaion issues, from the 91 to the 241 etc., and he knows the district better then anyone...

Corona Republican Voter said:

Miller is a fraud. He may hold positions of authority on certain transportation boards, but he doesn't know squat about transportation. If he did, we wouldn't have the mess we have on the 91 to begin with. He has never been effective in dealing with the issues of the 91, he has only made excuses blaming it on OC and the state.

And he has been completely silent on the 241 extension. Where does he think those cars are going to go? If that extension doesn't get built, OC loses not only transportation funds, but environmental (air quality) credits as well. If Miller knew anything about transportation he would know this and be doing something about it.

Maybe he just doesn't like OC? I don't trust him and I live in his city. OC would do well to beware of the great fraud.

The real fraud is Corona Republican Voter whose IP address comes from RSM.

Corona Republican Voter said:

Wow Internet Detective, that took you a lot longer than I thought it would to come back with that.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe I work in RSM? In fact, I am at work today. And do you know why? Because I work Saturdays so I can avoid the nightmare on the 91 on Mondays. The same nightmare that your boy Miller has done nothing about.

nothing? said:

Miller's the only one who has done anything about the 91. He's done everything except pour concrete for a new lane.

two questions said:

How does Internet Detective have access to IP addresses on the blog?

Since when do local OC politicians have power over transportation issues in Riverside County?

Seems to me that Miller better have a strong record on the 91, since he is the one running from that area.

Blais has always been strong on transportation issues in the RSM area.
