Excellent point. The answer is hypocrisy. This is what is happening at UCI. When we report on and criticize the hate speech by MSU-sponsored speakers, "progressives" (like the uci administration) consider it morally equivalent. A case of hate vs hate. That is not the case. We are not calling for the murder of innocents. We are not defending bombings against civilians. We are not calling for an entire people to be driven into the sea-or worse. We are not damning our own country.

Unfortunately, American universities have long lost sight of what is true hate speech. UCI is a classic example.

During the past week, I have met twice with the managers of the Anthill Pub regarding the picture of Malik Ali. The first time, I went alone and met with Scott, and the second time (yesterday), I was accompanied by a Jewish professor, at which time, we met with Melissa.

I have exchanged my views with both persons (in a courteous and friendly manner) and stated my opinion that hanging a photo of Malik Ali would be offensive to some. They have stated their position that they are not trying to make a political statement of support for Ali, rather that it is one of other photos that show life on campus. (The photos were donated by New University Newspaper.) They expressed openness on the idea of removing the picture in the future and willingness to meet with anyone offended by the picture. They both told me that they were not inclined to remove the photo at the present time.

First of all, though I disagree with the presence of the picture, I do not consider these folks to be driven by anti-anything.

I am aware that the words have heated up, and I think that will not accomplish our goal. What I think would be more productive would be for those truly offended by the photo to contact Scott and Melissa in whatever manner they choose and make their views known in a respectful manner.

Oh I've caught on. This is not someone to debate with, rather someone to....not laugh at because there is noting funny about him-rather someone to scorn as an outcast from decent society.

I really don't know much about Islam, but I do know that most Christians I know decry alcohol, so, I guess I'll view a bunch of conservative's concerns for this den of sin as just the further degradation of our society's moral fiber. I don't know how they did it, but those damn liberals won again.
