Via Cameron Galbraith, President of the UCI College Republicans:
Ayatollah Sistani's North American representative - Thursday, 3:30-5pm, SSPA 1100 - Sayyid Mohammed Kashmiri will be featured at the International Studies Public Forum and will speak efforts towards reconciliation in Iraq and Shi'a Islamic relations to other schools of thought and religions. Regarded as a more peaceful and moderate figure in the new Iraq than the militant Muqtada al-Sadr, Sistani plays an important role in the Iraqi path to democracy.

Hey Johnathon -
Wanted to say thanks for posting this. I wasn't aware of Sheikh Sayyid's talk, though I feel luck to call him a friend and have done some with IMAM. I was able to attend the speech, and certainly learned a lot about the Ayatollah Sistani's views and about Shi'aism. His words about pluralism within the Muslim community, the need for Shi'a-Sunni cooperation, while still maintaining separate identities was particularly inspiring.
Were you able to go? What did you think?
Todd,
Wasn't able to make this event, I wanted to tape it, unfortunately I had class at the time.
That's too bad, it was really well attended. A lot of professors actually brought their classes, too bad you weren't so lucky :).
If you're ever interested in interview Sh. Kashmiri, or other local Muslim leaders, for RC, let me know and I'm happy try to coordinate. Same thing for talks on campus.
Thanks. I'll look into it.
