This Saturday, March 21, 2009, there is going to be a rally on the steps of the Georgia State Capitol to show support for the Georgia House Resolution 470, which is an affirmation of the rights granted to states under the 9th and 10th amendments of the US Constitution. The event is scheduled to take place between 1 PM and 3 PM and for once the weather appears to be cooperating, no rain forecast.
This resolution is sponsored by state representative Bobby Franklin among others and he will be in attendance. In addition folks from the Georgia First coalition are expected to be in attendance along with their founder and gubernatorial candidate Ray McBerry and a group from the local Georgia Don't Go Movement will be there as well.
I will doing my internet radio show on Blog Talk Radio live from the event and I encourage folks to come out and support this legislation and send a message to the group of politicians who will listen to you since those in Washington DC appeared to be totally disconnected now and have begun to completely ignore what the Constitution is and what is stands for.
This disregard for the Constitution extends to their latest bill they passed to recoup the bonuses from AIG employees, bonuses they approved, through the power of the government. I am just as outraged as anybody that a business which is facing bankruptcy would be looking to hand out bonuses to anybody rather then pink slips. The point is several other companies throughout our history have done just that. I need look no further then Delta Airlines or Home Depot locally to know that bonuses are given to employees of struggling companies.
This event is a great chance to send a message that the Constitution does matter and is still relevant. The incentive for this event was the passage of the recent stimulus bill. In the bill our federal congress imposed terms upon states that would extend into the future, long after the federal tax dollars were gone leaving the residents of the states responsible for picking up the tab to pay for some of the projects and programs prescribed by the bill. When some governors expressed concern over this ongoing burden on the state taxpayers congress inserted language into the bill that would circumvent the powers of the governor.
This resolution is similiar to legislation either pending or approved in at least 15 other states.
Please plan on joining us.
