I just saw that the California Supreme Court has voted to uphold Prop 8.  It has also said that the 18,000 marriages performed before the vote will stand.

It is about values, not what is fashionable

Chicago Tribute reporter Staff Reporter Rex W. Huppke reports that "Traditional Marriage ruling disappoints activists" and quotes Modesto Tico Valle, executive director of the Center on Halsted as saying: The ruling is ".. not in touch with the rest of the country as more states, like Iowa, begin to affirm the right to get married" The Traditional Marriage debate is not about social rights, popular opinion, polls are what is fashionable as in relative ethics, but as to absolute values which do not change over time -the values the Nation will not compromise, as the President has often said, but never defined. On the other hand, the President's nomination of Judge Sotomayor is a major step to defining the values the President thinks are right for the country, or politically expedient; which may include social castration, for example

absolute values?

What the heck are absolute values?  Let's look back at some absolute values.  How about slavery?  The value that one person has the right to own another.  Here's another: though shalt not kill...unless your being sent on a Holy Crusade.  There are countless absolute values that have been bent, tweaked, and cast aside through history.  And your absolute value is what?  Two consenting adults shouldn't be able to express their love for each other in marriage?  Nice.
