Ah, Now That's Leadership

By Adam D. Probolsky | 05/15/08

The current policy in Mission Viejo is to provide lifetime health care benefits to retiring city council members AND their spouses if they are at least 50 years old and have served twelve or more years.Council Member Frank Ury has placed on Monday night's upcoming city council agenda an item that would repeal this policy.Local elective office is volunteer service in many ways.  Even though city council members in most Orange County cities... read more »

McCarty Limited Scope, Limted Support

By Adam D. Probolsky | 05/12/08

Voters in the 64th Assembly District are getting a better picture of Kelly McCarty's shaky "Republican" credentials. They probably all know by now that McCarty has supported some of California's most liberal politicians in the past via her special interest PAC - including Jerry Brown, Cruz Bustamante, Jose Solario and John Garemendi.Even so, some voters may have been willing to let that slide.  After all, those donations were provided while... read more »

Limited Return: Donald Ritze

By Adam D. Probolsky | 05/12/08

I just cast my Vote-by-Mail ballot and voted to re-elect my county supervisor Bill Campbell.Supervisor Campbell is an honorable man, who has the respect of everyone who has ever met him.  He brings a calming voice to any public policy discussion. His votes on the board of supervisors have proven to be good and prudent.  And he is a remarkable accessible elected official. So why then would he draw a challenger in June's Primary... read more »

Watch Rep. Calvert TONIGHT on Lou Dobbs

By Adam D. Probolsky | 04/23/08

Congressman Ken Calvert is scheduled to be on **CNN with Lou Dobbs tonight at 7pm.** Dobbs of course is a pretty rabidly anti-illegal immigration so I suspect that will be the topic they discuss. Calvert is the author of the Basic Pilot Program that has allowed employers to check and make sure names and social security numbers provided by job applicants match. It has been a great tool in preventing fraud. The program also makes it much... read more »

G-d forbid I want to make a call

By Adam D. Probolsky | 04/16/08

I don't know Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) or Rep. Jerry Costello (D-Ill.) but I have a feeling that we would not get a long very well.It seems that they want to criminalize the act of making a cel phone call in flight. It is so outrageous that I find it hard to believe they really believe in the legislation."The public doesn't want to be subjected to people talking on their cellphones on an already over-packed airplane," said Rep. Peter... read more »

Flash Report and Lincoln Club Bringing Weintraub to OC

By Adam D. Probolsky | 03/31/08

This governor confounds a lot of us.  And the donor community that has blindly followed him and continues to do so, is even more intriguing to me.  Luckily we have the knowledge and insight of Dan Weintraub, Sacramento Bee columnist to explain it all to us.The Flash Report and the Lincoln Club of Orange County have teamed up to bring Weintraub to Orange County later this month (April 23rd).  The evening event hosted by the Inland... read more »

Janet Nguyen has nothing to do with Tran's Assembly race

By Adam D. Probolsky | 03/06/08

The previous post on OCBlog suggests that Supervisor Janet Nguyen is somehow working on things other than her own re-election.NOT TRUE.A simple reading of the candidate log at Registrar of Voters show that Pham is running for OC Board of Education against Felix Rocha Jr, the incumbent. read more »

No Money: What are they (Trung and Dina Nguyen) thinking???

By Adam D. Probolsky | 02/22/08

As a supporter of/consultant to Supervisor Janet Nguyen I look at things like what the "competition" is up to.Well it turns out this year that the competition is pretty weak.According to the July - December 2007 campaign financial filings, Trung Nguyen the school board trustee that lost to Janet last year, has raised NO MONEY (other than a loan of just under $3000 from himself to his committee). In fact he has outstanding debt of over... read more »
