Government Just Can't Help Itself...

By Adam D. Probolsky | 10/28/08

***UPDATE*** I listened to the council meeting audio available at http://www.cityoflapalma.org/media/ for the Oct. 21 meeting beginning at hr 1:27.  It seems Councilman Rodriguez was not advocating for the inclusion of the VOIP in the city's UUT.  It is not clear what his intentions were.  Perhaps his councils needs to lead and his goal was to lead them, slowly, toward excluding VOIP from the tax.  Regardless, his timing was... read more »

By Adam D. Probolsky | 08/27/08

Looking at ballot designations in Newport Beach, four-time perennial candidate Dolores Otting, who is running against Councilman Keith Curry for District 7 lists; nothing.  Never a good choice. But apparently there is more to the story.  In papers filed with the city clerk, Otting attempted to use the title "Real Estate Licensee".  The city clerk rejected this title.  When Otting filed her Form 460 contribution report, a week... read more »

Is The Real Tom Harman Standing Up?

By Adam D. Probolsky | 06/30/08

Following his razor-thin win over Diane Harkey in the 2006 Senate special election, the heretorefore moderate Republican Tom Harman tacked sharply to the right. The big question on the minds of OC political observers was whether this signified a genuine philosophical conversion? Or was Harman changing his ideological stripes long enough to escape a 2008 primary from the Right, specifically from Assemblyman Chuck DeVore.Maybe we're beginning to... read more »

By Adam D. Probolsky | 06/16/08

Sidhu's unsuccessful challenge of Assemblywoman Mimi Walters for the 33rd Senate seat was not fun for him I am sure.  They both spend lots of money: totaling more than $2,000,000But Harry is a gracious guy and has sent out a well placed thank you letter to his supporters last week.  Harry is up for re-election in November.  Rumors are swirling about whether Harry will seek re-election or sit out for two years and run for... read more »
