Meg Whitman's Shadow Campaign?

I am a blogger. I am not a consultant. I have railed on consultants for a long time (just ask JCA or MTA for example...)

One thing I know about consultants - they can certainly help a client navigate the mess of campaign rules. I think Meg Whitman has a consultant already... I personally have had a different experience with running a campaign.

First off - there is the FPPC. I first met the FPPC in 2002, my first year as President of the Placer CRA.

The Placer CRA had to have one of those PAC's to be able to send mailers out enlightening voters as to their choices in a given election. I also realized that the FPPC is in charge of enforcing the confusing campaign finance laws. All I wanted to do was send people some mail about some really bad candidates for local office...

This brings me to the matter of how the heck is Whitman's campaign so dammed active already? They don't have one of those PAC's yet - a consultant friend told me that it is called an exploratory committee. The last time I heard about exploratory committees, they were being formed by people looking to run against John Doolittle (my former Congressman) in the GOP Primary.

Did any of you notice that Steve Schmidt and Adam Mandelsohn left the Whitman campaign - before they led McCain to his final slaughter in the 2008 Presidential race? Now, why the heck is a non-existent campaign using the services of someone like Schmidt who ran Arnold and McCain's campaign? Did I miss something? - in order to leave a campaign, there has to be a campaign to leave.

Now, my good buddy Mitch Zak really believes in Meg Whitman - I certainly respect that. I am not suggesting that Mitch is doing anything wrong, either... I know that Mitch Zak and Mr. Randle are seasoned pros at this game. (They are consultants, too!) How the heck are those guys getting paid? (and Schmidt and Mandelsohn?)

Like I said, Mitch really believes in Meg Whitman - maybe he is working for the same pay I got from the Placer CRA?

But is Meg ready? In 2007, when she first registered Republican, John Doolittle was a few months from being forced out of office, by other Republicans no less. This primary business is some tough stuff (ask Doug Ose for example). I am also glad to know that Meg voted as a Republican for the first time in 2008, since we need new Republicans... as many as we can given the recent election results. (Fraud not withstanding)

Meg Whitman is so new to the elections process, did she forget a step or two before running to get some of the 2010 primary? However, before she attends her first California GOP Convention she has some housekeeping - to first announce her committee and form one of those PAC'S. (I think Mr. Zak can handle that...)

This is a helpful tip from your local GOP activist Aaron F. Park

In the interest of helping a fellow Republican out - the FPPC's address is provided here: 428 J St #660, Sacramento, CA 95814. The California Secretary of State's Office is located at 1500 11th Street Sacramento, California 95814.

Those offices are within several blocks of each other - a few hours in downtown Sacramento (try not to trip over the homeless people sleeping on the lawns), and I am sure that Mrs. Whitman can take care of that annoying paperwork. (I'd offer to help, but I have never been able to do a dammed form 460 right the first time)
