The Yellow Colonel - Ducking Debates? Still no Answers, Just attacks against McClintock Supporters

Posted by: Aaron Park | 10/15/2008 1:43 PM

Charlie Brown ducked the previously scheduled debate sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce in Susanville last night. The final indication was reported by a local radio station 1/2 hour before the debate was to occur.

A cut-and-spliced section of a story in a Plumas county newspaper was posted by Brown operative "Bob" spurring some investigation.

In addition - Colonel Klink is also chickening out of a forum that 1380 KTKZ is hosting at William Jessup University.

This is not new - Charlie Bailed out last second on an El Dorado Hills Chamber of Commerce Debate on September 25th.

I don't care what the excuses are - given that Charlie has made NO public statement... just a last second letter to the Chamber of Commerce and a flat denial through a staffer to 1380... one has to wonder if Charlie Brown has decided to stop answering what few questions he has answered.

Of Further note - in an effort to discredit this blogger and to avoid the real issue - Charlie Brown's opposition to Prop 8, Charlie Brown supporter Lee Reed E-mailed Bruce Maiman (note the spelling) and posted Bruce's Email in a comment on another thread.

I sent Mr. Maiman the following e-mail - I am unsure if Mr. Maiman will reply, but I think my email pretty much says it all:

Subject: Your E-Mail to Lee Reed

Hi Bruce -

Mr. Reed posted your reply in its' entirety on a blog.

It would appear that he referenced Auburn Mayor Mike Holmes calling me a liar or something to that effect.

Mr. Holmes ran against John Doolittle in the 2006 primary before Charlie Brown almost beat him. As an officer of a local Republican Club and as a then-member of the local Republican Central Committee - I was a loud critic of Mr. Holmes. (There is the rest of the story) Mr. Holmes has not forgotten that.

I am sorry you have been dragged into the middle of this, but, the Brown Campaign refuses to answer direct questions and your email back to Mr. Reed has been used to discredit me as the Brown Campaign is engaged in a Clinton-Style shoot the messenger, avoid the issue campaign.

I was listening to your show when Charlie Brown said that he opposes Prop 8. It is as clear as his previous denial of being in uniform at the effigy rally.

The blog post in question was written by the Prop 8 campaign, not me. I am sure Mr. Reed failed to mention that as well. (This is in reference to your labeling me as hyperbolic)

I just thought you should know that you were used by the Brown campaign - I am sure without your knowledge.

Regards,

Aaron F. Park

Well, I saw Charlie debate for the first time Monday night, and Tom made him look like a fool on every issue to say the least. Charlie had more supporters show up to the debate since it was hosted by a liberal group (even though hey claim to be non partisan), however by the end of the debate they had all dissappeared. Even the democrats that want to vote for him based on his party affiliation can't stand to listen to him longer than ten minutes.

Tom will take this election easily, and I can't wait to watch Charlie give his concession speech!

It is interesting that the Brown team has yet to respond to this post.

It is tough stuff when they get nailed to the wall. What a glass-jawed coward.

You do not set the topic agenda. Real life does. The world is in financial turmoil.

Post McClintocks best thoughts as to what needs to be done short term.

Lee

Aaron F Park said:

Lee - start your own blog then you get to control the agenda.

Lee - Charlie has an opportunity to talk about the financial turmoil and he has decided to cut and run from debates.

Nice Try - but Charlie is running away from Debates.

Let me see...

It's an accepted fact of politics that the person in the strongest position will take the safer route. The safer route always means fewer debates.

Sorry, Aaron, but I think you are reading these tea leaves 180 degrees out of phase.

Lee Reed said:

Aaron, the situation in the real world sets the agenda. Disregarding that is a political loser. You can't brute force away from what people are riveted to.

You giving me 14 points? I'll take any and all up to $500.

Lee

Aaron F Park said:

"Bob" nice try again - why did you go to William Jessup in place of Brown?

If you guys are out in front, then why did you go?

Lee - You want to bet $500 on the 4th CD race? And, you're asking me to spot you 14 points?

Daily Kos said Brown is up by 5. Val Smith said McClintock by 14. The average of the two would be McClintock by 4.5...

Are you tracking me? What say you?

Aaron F Park said:

Lee - just to be clear, I do want to take the bet. I am proposing spotting you the average of Daily Kos' poll and the 14 pointer from Val Smith.

Lee Reed said:

Aaron, you never heard me tout the dkos poll. You touted the Prince Valiant poll. Either stand by it or disavow it. 14 points for $500.

Lee

Aaron F Park said:

Leehog - way to wiggle free. The Brownies have been touting their Daily Kos poll - you are touting Brown to the point of compromising your integrity.

Bob said:

Sorry to disappoint, Aaron. I missed the event at WJU tonight. I got to watch half the presidential debate and then had a meeting to go to that wasn't the least bit about politics. I'm sure Todd did fine. Also sorry to hear he's going to dump wheelbarrows of cash on your head two weeks before the election. OK, I'm not sorry.

Bob said:

Aaron,

What plan did Tom McClintock unfold at the debate for dealing with the worst financial crisis since the 2930s? Just a few bullet points, please, with how these actions will actually impact the economy in a meaningful way.
