Republicans are Skeptical of Democrat Drilling Proposal

Heck - weather there was drilling in Cuba in 2008, there is no argument that foreign countries will be drilling our oil in 2009 while we sit on our hands.
The Wall Street Journal Weighs in - keep in mind, Charlie Brown is running for Congress and his first vote will be to elect Pelosi speaker.
The point of this and the withering posts against Brown on the Oil Issue is that Brown has no effective defense for the fact that he wants to go to congress to serve Nancy Pelosi's agenda.
You have no doubt where Tom McClintock stands - with Charlie, you see anonymous commenters all over the board with excuses and deflections as to why America can't exploit it's own resources.
Now Pelosi is feeling that the Drilling Issue is hammering the Democrats into the ground, but the GOP is not fooled by her "drilling" plan.
WWCBD? Stand up to Pelosi or not? Tom McClintock Will - make no doubt.

I am touched. You remembered. I open up RCP and behold there is a birthday gift for me. Thank you friend.
THE RETURN OF THE PLUMBERS (circa 8-19-2008)
Aaron: Stoosie, Tom is really counting on us to pull off this job without any screw-up’s. You are coming in with me and Jimmy Two Times is going to stay outside as our lookout. Now let’s go over the drill. Tom put out a whopper about 10 days ago. Let me show you the blue print of what we are going to work on…
“Meanwhile, the vast oil fields off the coast of Florida that American law prevents Americans from developing are now being drained by the Chinese government drilling in Cuban waters”
Stoosie: Yeah, yeah. That’s what Tom gets for sending me to Siberia. I woulda saved him from himself.
Aaron: ( ummm, that’s not what I heard. A little bit of recontructionist history going on here) Yeah Stoosie, well here is the blue print of how we want to change things…
“Heck - weather there was drilling in Cuba in 2008, there is no argument that foreign countries will be drilling our oil in 2009 while we sit on our
Hands.”
Stoosie: That reminds me, Tom wishes you would know the difference between “weather” and “whether”. We’ll have to make that change in the blue print.
Aaron: ( how did I get so lucky as to get hooked up with Stoosie)
Stoosie: Ok, it’s 9:30, time for us to move in. Jimmy, you pick the lock…Jimmy you are a master. Aaron, I got the portable pipe steamer.
You got the tool box and splices?
Aaron: We’re good to go.
(inside)
Aaron: I know the drill. Steam out the pipes first. We don’t want to deal with stinky muck when we start the splicing.
Aaron: Done. Now let’s get the WILL splice in first. It goes right in the ARE NOW BEING section. Make sure it is soldered in real good. We don’t want any more leaks.
Stoosie: Done
Aaron: Now let’s do the FOREIGN COUNTRIES splice next. Lemme look again at the blue prints. Yeah, just as I thought. It replaces the CUBA section. Make sure you get that in there real good.
Stoosie: Done
Aaron: Now let’s get outta here. Let’s not press our luck
(outside…rolling away in a Mustang)
Jimmy Two Times: How’d go?
Aaron: The sweetest black bag job you ever seen. Stoosie is a Maestro…
Stoosie: Oh Oh, Jimmy you better floor it. There are those two coppers that have been gumshoeing around in a Black and White coming up on us.
Busted…perp walk all the way to Lincoln and Main…
Remember kiddies, crime does not pay…
(fade to black)
Patrolman Reed, you need to revise that police report.
Patrolman Reed: Gotcha chief...

Haha, Lee I must admit, I liked your little movie script. Maybe after Tom wins we could do a little short film, maybe win one of those little gold statues, you never know. I don't really get the "I'm 69 tomorrow and my name looked like Jeremy" line on the other post, but I am sorry for your eyesight problems. Go have that checked because last time I looked, my name was James. Been that way for about 30 years now.
Aaron is exactly right, the leases China has with Cuba are real, and WHETHER or not there has been drilling there already or not isn't really relevent long-term. There will be drilling. And the Democrats you support are going to do nothing about it, and sit back and watch us pay $10 a gallon a couple years from now and say, "well, all we need to do is develop new sources of energy." The notion that other countries will simply provide us with cheap oil is the past. We need to drill our own oil, and stop this out of control prices at the pump while developing new sources of energy.
James,
Let me get this straight. Allowing China or Jamaica or Bulgaria or any other country to drill for oil in Cuban territorial waters is going to lead to $10 gasoline? Come again? Can you explain that logic?
See, you are short on logic and long on rhetoric and sound bites. "The horrors! China is exploring for oil in Cuban waters!" as if that will make any difference at all in the worldwide demand and supply of oil. Yet somehow it's OK that we pay for our wars by borrowing mountains of money from the Chinese.
Of course you have completely glossed over the small problem that we don't have enough domestic oil to make much of a difference in the world price if we drilled until the cows come home. But if our demand falls THAT can really make a difference to the price of oil. Note the recent drop in the price of oil from $147 to $114. No new supply was brought on line but demand has fallen both in reaction to the higher oil prices and because the higher oil prices have put a brake on the U.S. economy so the economy needs less energy.
You are right. "The notion that other countries will simply provide us with cheap oil is the past". Too bad we don't have enough oil of our own if we exploit everything we have to make much difference in the price--unless we reduce demand.
What drilling enthusiasts appear to assume is that every drop of oil produced domestically will be available for demostic consumption and will cost about the same to produce as it does elsewhere in the world. A further assumption appears to be that we can pay for that oil at a reduced price because it comes from domestic sources. As any economist or high school civics student could tell you it doesn't work that way. It's a world market and our domestically-produced oil is available for sale to the highest bidder. Wonder why the oil companies are making those enormous profits?
You say drilling is the solution while we develop new sources of energy. What, pray tell, is your plan for developing new sources of energy? That part of your policy isn't very clear. Maybe you can shed some light for us. Tom McClintock doesn't have anything specific to say about that at all.
I support drilling offshore and in ANWR if it can be done safely (in terms of the environment). But I don't have my head in the sand. I understand that drilling will make very little difference in the oil price equation and that we must force our economy to shift resources to conservation and alternative-energy development programs to stave off economic disaster in the longrun.
It appears to me as if Republicans--who aren't stupid--understand this but are using the issue as a political weapon. They (correctly) assume that Americans aren't going to understand all this but they will understand sound bites. In other words Republicans are playing politics when America needs to take concrete, bi-partisan action to solve this problem.
In short, you and Aaron and everyone else who stands in the way of progress on reducing our demand for oil are acting against the best interests of the United States--weather [sic] you know it or not.
Bob

Bob - Lie Number one - Republicans stand in the way of reducing oil demand. In your fixation to justify Charlie's dependence on Pelosi (eg BANANA - Build Absolutely Nothing Ahywhere Near Anything) - you ignore that Republicans have called on ALL forms of energy production.
Lie Number two - it is the left that has hampered alternative energy production, filing lawsuits to stop solar plants because the ecosystem of a wasteland is more important or lawsuits against power line construction (how you get that green power to market) or suing over little bridies getting hacked up by the windmills.
Lie Number three - standing in the way is Nancy Pelosi - the majority leader. It dovetails with the email you guys sent out about the state budget. It is the Dems in the majority and their pervue to act (which they aren't doing)
Lie Number four - America understands the concept of extreme environmental laws that have hamstrung the oil industry. You call it playing politics that the Republicans are pointing that out, please obtain some government cheese to go with that wine.
Further, your own comment and that of another that you celebrated proclaimed that "New Oil will get sold on the open market" - a blatant ignorance of commodities markets. Now that is real deception - we shouldn't drill because that new oil is going to get sold off to other countries anyway! Unbelievable - you guys are getting drilled all over the country.
Aaron,
Your own lie #1 - There is no substance at all to Republican "calls" for reducing energy demand. It's all "voluntary" or "market driven" which has not been effective.
Your own lie #2 - Post some proof and show that the suits have had any material impact on the energy situation. Show that the suits are initiated by Democrats versus Green Party / Other.
Your own lie #3 - Prove it. Don't use Pelosi's name like some kind of talisman. Make specific points. Otherwise what you say means nothing at all.
Your own like #4 - Oil & Gas have given 10X the amount of money to politicians (Republicans 3X more than Democrats) than environmental groups and have spent more than 10X on PR over environmental groups. No wonder people have been brainwashed.
Your last lie - Where's the ignorance, Aaron? I have been a commodities buyer on the world market - have you? No, you've sold insurance and maybe some financial instruments that involve commodities to local consumers--right? How does that make you an expert on this?
All I am saying is if we add 2 million bbls a day from domestic sources that goes into the world's pot of supply (83 million bbls / day) meaning that even though we just increased supply by just over 9% of total U.S. demand (21 million bbls / day) we only increased WW supply--and affected prices--by a little more than 2% (2 million divided into 83 million). And it will take years and years to get to that rate of incremental production.
Remember - I have said yes to offshore drilling and to drilling in ANWR--in combination with aggressive conservation and alternative energy programs.
As Lee said, you need to think about the whole game and not just the next trick.
Bob

Flip-Flop.
Your own lie #1 - There is no substance at all to Republican "calls" for reducing energy demand. It's all "voluntary" or "market driven" which has not been effective.
Market Driven - A lie to a socailist like you and a truth to a capitalist like me.
Your own lie #2 - Post some proof and show that the suits have had any material impact on the energy situation. Show that the suits are initiated by Democrats versus Green Party / Other.
Coming soon to a blog near you.
Your own lie #3 - Prove it. Don't use Pelosi's name like some kind of talisman. Make specific points. Otherwise what you say means nothing at all.
Try reading my posts and try reading the articles posted, they pretty much say it all regarding Pelosi's behavior.
Your own like #4 - Oil & Gas have given 10X the amount of money to politicians (Republicans 3X more than Democrats) than environmental groups and have spent more than 10X on PR over environmental groups. No wonder people have been brainwashed.
You consistently ignore the impact of 527's and PAC's two other organizations whose political money drawf that of the Oil Industry.
Your last lie - Where's the ignorance, Aaron? I have been a commodities buyer on the world market - have you? No, you've sold insurance and maybe some financial instruments that involve commodities to local consumers--right? How does that make you an expert on this?
Congratulations, Bob! Your identity is a lie, how can you prove anything you say about yourself! I have a securities license which requires a knowledge of economics as it pertains to recommendations being made to clients.
Meantime, while you guys are driving your priuses to your bridge game I have clients whose businesses are being devastated by fuel prices.
See also Charlie Brown's top ten reasons why we can't drill list.
Aaron,
B.S. on flip flop. I have been consistent all the way through this debate. You just haven't been listening.
#1 - Show where market-driven has made a difference. I'll tell you how public policy can help. I just had a solar power contractor at my house today to quote on a system. The federal government offers a large tax credit that expires at the end of 2008 - expires! The tax credit really helps to make the deal work. There is also a State incentive that is going away soon. Without these the financials of installing a solar power system are not so good.
We need a LOT more of this kind of government action to get the industry to a volume that can sustain itself economically. If 50% of the oil company tax credits had been applied to alternatives we would be in far better shape than we are today. Manufacturers will not invest huge amounts of money in capital if federal and state programs only last a year or two. The current situation is nuts.
In a similar fashion allowing hybrids to use carpool lanes with one person onboard and federal tax credits sold a ton of high mileage vehicles. California has now stopped the carpool program and the federal tax credit has been cut. Why?
#2 - Sure, sure. And I will fact check it to death after you post it.
#3 - That's circular logic. Your articles always cite Pelosi like her name caused a problem with no specifics. Tell us instead why you think she is standing in the way of a good energy bill. I think she is standing in the way of a bad one that does not contain the conservation and alternative pieces we need.
#4 - Apples and oranges. How are 527s affecting the energy debate? I have shown data for political contributions (which includes PACs, btw). Prove it.
Aaron, how do I know you have a securities license? Because you said so? You can choose to retreat into the "anonymous poster must be lying" gambit but I have not and will not lie about who I am and what I have done. I bought memory chips for a major computer manufacturer. Hundreds of millions of dollars worth. These chips, like oil, are fungible and interchangeable. They aren't sold on a public market which makes it even more difficult to know what's going on.
If your clients are being devastated by fuel prices then you gotta ask yourself--what if the federal government had mandated 40 mpg vehicles by 2008 back in, oh, 1988? D'ya think your clients would be as devastated as they are today if their truck were getting 28 mpg running on gas and electric power instead of 16 on the same tired old power train your Mustang uses? The domestic auto industry is falling apart anyway. That was the reason for not taking action on CAFE before. Didn't do much good, did it?
Face it, Aaron. You got a temporary political lift from the gas price crunch, That lift is already wearing off as people figure out Republicans offer nothing that will really help solve the crisis and that they are just trying to milk this issue for political gain. This thing is going to blow up in your face come November. Yet here you are out there with your pom-poms looking increasingly foolish as each day goes by. Keep it up!
Bob
Citizens oF CA-04 Are Skeptical of Anything McCintock Says About Drilling, Period
Gumshoeing Tom McClintock has become as ever growing as McClintock's ever growing PINOCHIO NOSE.
Now this:
McClintock admits error in China drilling statement
By Ken Paglia | Democrat staff writer | August 19, 2008 15:26
A campaign spokesman for 4th congressional district candidate Tom McClintock recently clarified a statement McClintock made claiming China was draining Cuban oil fields off the Florida coast.
The original statement was made in an Aug. 10 Auburn Journal Op-ed piece in which McClintock wrote, “The vast oil fields off the coast of Florida that American law prevents Americans from developing are now being drained by the Chinese government drilling in Cuban waters.”
McClintock spokesman Stan Devereux said Monday the candidate meant the oil fields were leased by Cuba to the Chinese.
“He (McClintock) used the word drained, but it should be leased by the Cuban government. It’s these vast oil fields off the Florida coast that are being leased out to Chinese,” said Devereux.
Charlie Brown, the Democrat candidate for the 4th district race, attributed McClintock’s statement to a claim Vice President Dick Cheney made, and then retracted, several months ago.
In June Cheney said waters in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, which are off-limits to American oil companies, should be opened be-cause China is already drilling there.
The following day, Cheney released this statement: “It is our understanding that, although Cuba has leased out exploration blocks 60 miles off the coast of southern Florida, which is closer than American firms are allowed to operate in that area, no Chinese firm is drilling there.”
The Mountain Democrat attempted to verify through the U.S. State Department that China had leased oil fields from Cuba.
“We have no information to indicate China has engaged in those specific plans,” said State Department spokeswoman Sara Mangiaracina, via telephone Monday afternoon.
McClintock and Brown are campaigning for the Nov. 4 general election that will determine who replaces congress man John Doolittle when he retires at the end of this year.

Every time McClintock tries to wiggle out of his original lie, he wiggles deeper into the lying mire. As they say, it is not the original crime that does one in, it is the attempted cover-up.
The Mountain Democrat calls the US State Department and State refuses to provide cover for McClintock. He is left slowing sinking in his lying mire.
Apparently McClintock's PINOCHIO nose problems stems from a hearing problem. He thought his handlers said that Placer and the rest of CA-04 is heavily RUBE-LICAN*
