OTT: Latest Duck by Brown Team - $30K in Effigy

Posted by: Aaron Park | 08/25/2008 6:58 PM

Blogger's Notes - Did Charlie stand with the effigy? This is what the voters in the 4th CD want to know. The absurdity of Charlie Brown's charges against Tom McClintock are punctuated by Charlie Brown's Anti-War Activism.

Late in the 2006 campaign, Charlie abandoned Cindy Sheehan and Steven Pearcy, dispatching his wife to try and talk them out of a Code Pink rally at the Capitol late summer 2006. Pearcy was quite angry that someone he saw as a friend would abandon his core principles in pursuit of political gain.

Could the "Promises Kept" be another attempt at political redemption for Charlie Brown? Think of it, it is a perfect storm - the Brownies can say I am a mean-spirited political attack dog and continue to avoid answering for Charlie's own contempt for our soldiers serving in Iraq.

Did Charlie Brown stand with the effigy? The silence from the Brown camp is deafening - it is time for Charlie to man up and either emphatically deny or proudly stand up with his anti-war allies that he spurned in late 2006.

Charlie's E-mail follows:

Dear Friend,

With less than 75 days to this historic election, I wanted to send you a special video message about why this campaign is so personal, and why we aren't waiting until January of 2009 to make a difference in District four.

Today, we're launching the second round of Promises Kept Veterans Charity Challenge voting.  We'll be giving away another $30,000 next week.   And between now and 11:59 PM on Monday, September 1st, you will determine how much each of our 3 worthy beneficiaries will receive.

CLICK HERE TO MEET OUR FINALISTS AND VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE!

As a veteran, a wife, and a mom, I am so proud of the military tradition in our family.  A big part of that tradition is ensuring all who defend America around the world are also able to pursue their dreams here at home.  Despite plenty of election year words to the contrary, history shows us that this is all too often not the case.

For example, recent reports show housing foreclosures among military families are occurring at 4 times the national average .

The support services offered by community based providers can make a huge difference for veterans and families most in need and most at risk.  Like our previous beneficiaries, our newest finalists-- Rebuild Hope , Cottage Housing , and the Greater Oroville Homeless Coalition are offering innovative solutions to help meet needs ranging from financial crisis, to homelessness, to emotional readjustment.

CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR FINALISTS, AND VOTE HERE!

A new generation of American warriors is already beginning to come home. The Promises Kept Veterans Charity Challenge is about much more than supporting service providers in our community---it's about giving veterans and military families a voice.

Since we launched the program last September, we have been inundated with phone calls and letters from fellow veterans across the country.  Many are dealing with overwhelming financial, physical, and emotional hardships---lasting costs of war that no carefully staged photo op or well intentioned sound byte can possibly repay.

These voices are a reminder of why taking action in our communities today is so important, but they are also a reminder of why we need a strong voice for our military, our veterans and their families in the next Congress.

VOTE HERE IN THE PROMISES KEPT VETERANS CHARITY CHALLENGE!

Over the next few weeks, the public spotlight will shift to the national political conventions and what will be an historic election in November.  Together, through this unprecedented program, we are making history right now.

Thank you again for your commitment to a higher standard of leadership.

Very Sincerely, (Brown's Signature)

I leave you with the Sacramento Bee Story from Late 2006:

"Anti-war activist Stephen Pearcy, who gained attention from his Sacramento home in February when he hung a human-shaped form dressed in a military uniform and adorned it with anti-war messages, charged that the retired Air Force officer is distancing himself from the protesters who had come to regard Brown as one of them.

"He's back-pedaling," said Pearcy in an interview. "He was initially holding himself out as an anti-war candidate, someone who vehemently opposed the war and supported immediate withdrawal. Now I am not so sure he supports that ... This is an example of the kind of Democrats we've had who have acted basically in a spineless manner."

Pearcy said the Roseville Democrat had appeared at his house in February when his dangling protest symbol was generating crowds of pro-war activists. Pearcy said Brown was dressed in his Air Force uniform to show his solidarity with him and his wife."

I think this topic could be resolved rather easily if the Lt. Col. would simply come out and make a statement on the subject. Unless, of course, he actually was there. That would explain the silence on the matter.

Regards to all involved,
Hector

What a tasteless, unpatriotic thing for Charlie to do. To me, it doesn't get much more unamerican than that. I don't know what he could have been thinking. I'm waiting for him to show up to a flag burning next, or maybe an immigration protest with illegals.

Charlie Brown is desperate for votes, and he will say anything to try and win the election. Even if that means protesting the war by hanging fake soldiers to try and win over his liberal base.

The tasteless and unpatriotic thing is the trashing of a good American by bloggers like Aaron, and the bobble-headed thinking of commenters like you who can't even begin to question whether this is just a bunch of made-up crap.

My son USAF Staff Sergeant Reed, called an hour ago. He was elated that he had qualified with the rifle. Yes, very good news.

And yet, it harkens back to this. Some anon took it upon himself to try to put me down.

Just for you. My son is on the line talking about his upcoming deployment to Kuwait with his step-mother. He and I spent the bulk of last week at his step-mother's lake place near Fergus Falls MN. He called yesterday to tell me that he qualified with the M-9 pistol. He called again today to tell me that he did not qualify with the rifle. He will be given another chance to qualify in about a month. But never-the-less he will deploy to Kuwait. He let me know last week that he was sworn in for another 4 years. He is 27 years old and a SSgt. in the USAF and has almost 6 years in now. He went in on Sept. 11th 2002.
Am I proud of my son, you betcha. There are some things that transcend politics. Don'tcha think?

Lee,
Glad to hear your son qualified with a pistol. Not being able to qualify with a rifle is embarrassing, as any vet with a hunting license prior to service usually passes with ease.
I'm sure the real men in the county can forgive you for being negligent in teaching your son the finer points of marksmanship, since you obviously taught him to love country more than life.
you should be proud.

Lee Reed said:
Actually anon
My son is left eye dominant but right handed. He has qualified with the rifle before. He has had to re-learn how to shift to a left-handed mode of shooting.
Thus he qualifies with the M-9 with ease, as others struggle.
Stick around and let us know a little about yourself...

Hi Lee,
I mean no offense, but it is a fun issue to tease you with. I am also left eye dominent and right handed so I know your son's plight. Take a kid hunting though, and he'll adapt real quick as any of my brothers, huntn' buddies, or comrades will attest.
No biggie, you don't like guns. Sounds like the US Military was still able to teach your son to be a man:)

Now here is the interesting part. My response that stood at the very end of the thread has been scrubbed. I will recapitulate from memory.

Anon

You seem interested in guns. Do you know the bolt-action 410 Mossberg shotgun? That was my rabbit and pheasant shootin’ weapon. I used it to even the odds (I thought later that “level the playing field” was what I meant). Nevertheless I got my limit way before my hunting partners who had larger gauge, semi-automatic shotguns. I was just a poor farm boy who did not have the resources of Dick Cheney…

Mr. Park, this is a matter of character, yours. This exchange was on your post. You stood by. You did not have the character to speak out.

If I were granted Blog Pen privileges, which of course will not happen, I know myself enough to step in. It is a matter of honor. It is a matter of integrity. It is a matter of putting country before self.

These core values escaped you. And well that they did. And you know the reason why...

Lee - first off, I am perfectly happy letting anon commenters beat on you, turnabout is fair play. You don't seem to get annoyed when I get beat on.

Also Cheap Shot - no pun intended - I don't delete comments. The editors do, take it up with them. I didn't delete your comment asking me if I was into bondage or your choosing to repeat parts of my personal testimony because it now suits you.

You seem to be incapable of debate - it is always story time or some esoteric diatribe. I guess you learned that in 30+ years of social work, I don't know...

As to "bob" speaking of anon commenters who beat on me... wrote:

Anyone! Did Charlie Brown stand with the soldier hung in effigy. The Sacramento Bee said so in an October 30, 2006 article. WWCBD? Where is the good American? What does Charlie have to say???

Prove that I am a scumbag! Prove I'm wrong, someone, anyone!!! Send over the letter on Charlie Brown for Congress stationery...

Bob said:

Aaron,

The Sac Bee did NOT say so. The Bee quoted your only source on this, anti-war activist lawyer Stephen Pearcy, who said so. Very different thing.
