Recently, I voted against spending $45 million to make traffic worse in Kings Beach in Lake Tahoe. (Note: the Journal finally runs the Kranz op-ed on the Kings Beach vote.)
Jennifer Montgomery op-ed: Public support for three lanes in Kings Beach is indeed solid - Auburn Journal
I was saddened, but not surprised, when Supervisor Bruce Kranz recently led the effort on the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) Governing Board imperiling the Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project (KBCCIP) by rejecting the "three-lane hybrid" alternative. Editorial: Seeking engaged citizens to run in local elections - Auburn Journal
While much of the 2008 election season up to this point has focused on McCain-Obama and, closer to home, Brown v. McClintock for the 4th Congressional District, there are a couple of dozen seats locally up for grabs on city councils, park and school boards, fire and special service districts.
Jim Ruffalo column: More departures announced at Auburn P.D. - Auburn Journal
Two (Auburn) council seats will be open -- Keith Nesbitt's and Bob Snyder's. Snyder has already announced he will not run again, which opens the door for Dr. Bill Kirby, who not only has already officially taken out candidate's papers, but has pretty near pre-empted any other challenger when it comes to putting together an impressive list of endorsers. Meanwhile, Mayor Nesbitt gave me official word that he'll seek re-election.

A dead bird found in Roseville and a mosquito pool in Lincoln have tested positive for West Nile virus marking the first time in 2008 that the virus has been found in Placer County.
Parents plead no contest in baby case - Sac Bee
The parents of an Auburn baby girl who was found in what police described as a starving condition in December agreed Friday to plead to charges related to child endangerment.
