While some will be quick to point out that Auto theft is going down nationally, in California, it is not. 4 of the Top Ten Worst cities for Auto Theft are within 100 Miles of here (Fresno would be a fifth, but it is 180 miles away)
Of Note are the top four most stolen cars: In its annual "Hot Wheels" report, the NICB said the '95 Civic was followed by the '91 Honda Accord, the '89 Toyota Camry and the '97 Ford F-150 as the nation's most stolen cars in 2007. The top four on the list are unchanged from 2006. For the fourth year in a row, the '95 Civic has been in the top 10.
Who would think that 13-19 year old cars would be top targets? Why not a Mercedes or a Mustang?
Before you breathe easier with your new car, take a look at the last setence in the article...
In just its first year on the road, the 2007 Toyota Corolla made its way to No. 10 on the list
Other than the obvious insurance benefits (Sacramento Area is number 10 worst area for Auto Theft) - Peace of Mind through deterrence is huge. Thieves are going to be less likely to steal a car in Placer County because the task force will not only find the car, but the thief as well.
Once again - thanks to the Placer County Board of Supes (Kirk, Bruce), our quality of life has been upgraded again.
Blogger's side note - the wildfires are going to cause your insurance to spike up at the next renewal - be prepared. Insurance companies can't just pay millions, even billions in claims without rates being affected.
Update - A Friend of mine sent me this email: "I like your post about car theft. I have to put in a plug for my favorite all-time anti-theft device from Identity (888-no-theft). Thieves have tried to steal my truck twice from my driveway without success. They could not defeat the Identity system. All of the John L. Sullivan automall dealers use it and actually leave their vehicles open most of the time, even over holidays. Cost $400 and is worth every penny."
If those dirtbags actually succeeded in stealing that man's truck - chances are that the new task force would be able to find that truck.
