Ose Circulating Mountain Democrat Editorial Blasting McClintock for Debate Dodging

Posted by: Jeff Flint | 06/02/2008 4:11 PM

The Mountain Democrat reiterated their endorsement of Doug Ose for Congress today, and took a direct shot at McClinotck for dodging debates in the final days of the campaign.  The Ose campaign is distributing the editorial today, received over the transom here at Red County Placer:

Ose the only one

As a reminder of why we support Doug Ose for the Republican nomination to Congress we need look no further what the other major candidate did to the El Dorado Hills and Sacramento Valley Lincoln Club. The club sent out invitations to former Congressman Doug Ose and state Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks, eight weeks ago. They checked again at the six-week and one-week marks. They booked a ballroom at the Sheraton for 180 guests who paid $150-$180 to hear the duo debate. Then McClintock jilted them at the last minute, whining that Ose was picking on him and the Lincoln Club should change the format to include the marginal candidates. As if McClintock hasn't said mean things about Ose.

This imperious attitude doesn't fit the job description for which he is applying. It is called Representative.

McClintock doesn't plan to represent the constituents of this district. He only will represent his personal and obscure theories of federalism.

Ose will represent the thousands of people he has talked to in this congressional district. Without even being asked, he has spoken to wine grape and fruit growers in El Dorado County to hear their concerns, appeared before the local taxpayers association and many other groups. This is what people look for in a representative -- someone who knows the issues and economic challenges of the district, knows the people and leaders and will work on those problems for those people when elected to Congress.

When the press, representing thousands of readers, has a question for Doug Ose it can speak to him directly. When it has a question for Tom McClintock it can only talk to his campaign consultant. With Ose, it's talk to the man. With McClintock, it's talk to the hand.

Doug Ose is also going to approach the national issues with the same analytical approach that has made him a successful businessman. Ose told the Mountain Democrat he "is very skeptical about global warming as a man-caused event." He added that "half information produces bad policy ... half-baked policy." He also said he is concerned that the push for global warming action is coming from the same people who brought us MTBE, a gasoline additive that contaminated well water and the watershed.

Ose served three terms in Congress previously and will retain his seniority, if elected.

Here is what 3rd District Representative Dan Lungren said about Ose: "Doug Ose has been a strong proponent of reducing the tax burden on America's working families, small business owners, family farmers and ranchers. Doug supported one of the largest tax cuts in American history because he understood this tax cut and others like it create more jobs and encourage more consumer spending, which would ultimately stimulate strong economic growth.

"When radical environmental groups abused the legal system to stop the California-Mexico border fence, Doug introduced a legislative amendment that waived environmental restrictions on the project so construction of the fence could resume and stop high traffic border crossings," Lungren said.

There is no other choice for the Republican nomination to the 4th Congressional District. The Mountain Democrat previously endorsed Doug Ose and again urges Republicans vote for Doug Ose June 3

Who cares with the Mountain Democrat says about this race? With a newspaper name like that I'd expect them to endorse a democrat like Ose. Oh wait, he's a Republican isn't he? Hmmm, I'm not sure because his voting record sure appears to be that of a democrat. He's got an F rating from the NRA and an F from the Conservative Union. Sounds like a democrat to me. How many people read that paper anyway, like 5?

Auburnymous, Doug Ose, one in the same? Maybe you guys share that pool house in Placer County? Can't you handle a difference of opinion? Maybe not, you're from Auburn afterall.

Funny. The Mountain Democrat was one of the few papers that endorsed Doolittle over Brown in 2006.

Some local races draw most attention in Tuesday's vote

SACRAMENTO — With California's earliest-ever presidential primary already behind them, many voters are finding Tuesday's primary election something of a snoozer.

There are no statewide races and just two initiatives — both related to eminent domain.

A handful of hot legislative and congressional races has managed to generate interest in certain areas. A state senator from the Central Valley faces a recall vote, Republicans are vying to replace a party stalwart in Northern California and the Sacramento mayoral campaign has turned dirty as a former NBA star seeks to unseat the city's two-term mayor.
Secretary of State Debra Bowen reported Friday that voter rolls climbed to 16.1 million. The highest registration number since 2005 is because in part to the interest in this year's presidential election, which led to a 58 percent turnout of eligible voters in February.

Yet no one is expecting turnout anywhere near that Tuesday, save for a few local elections with contested races.

Steve Weir, head of the state registrars' association, expects about 32 percent of registered voters to cast ballots, slightly less than the turnout for the June primary two years ago, when 33.6 percent of voters went to the polls.
Local legislator seeks seat

Among areas where turnout is expected to be heavy is the 4th Congressional District, which stretches from the Sacramento suburbs east to Nevada and north to the Oregon border. Former Rep. Doug Ose has spent more than $2 million of his personal fortune in his campaign against state Sen. Tom McClintock, who is running for the Northern California seat even though he represents a Ventura County district in the Legislature.

Republicans are vying for the seat held by GOP Rep. John Doolittle, who has been caught up in a lobbying scandal and is not seeking re-election.

While Ose has relied on his personal wealth, McClintock has nearly doubled him in fundraising. McClintock owes that to the anti-tax group Club for Growth, which raised hundreds of thousands of dollars by "bundling" contributions from supporters and runs ads on McClintock's behalf.

Just down from my house on the Superstition Freeway is a congressman that represents his constituents well and is for Zero pork barrel spending. I drive around Mesa, Chandler and Gilbert and I don't see things falling apart from a lack of earmark spending. Oh by the way, that man is Jeff Flake. Tom will represent his constituents just as well in January.

Sunning under the palo verde tree.

Jeff,

Your bias is showing as an editor, where you should at least let folks know what you are doing!

We get a press release for the Mountain Democrat when they repeat their endorsement, but no word about the Sacramento Union's endorsement after the Ose folks, with your help, made such a big deal about some of their earlier concerns about where Tom lives.

1. You sound awfully nervous for a guy with a 30 point lead.

2. Aaron had already posted the Sac Union endorsement of McClintock, or I would have. I have posted every press release I got from the McClintock campaign unless Aaron beat me to it, I daresay you would not have been as fair if you were in my shoes.

3. Good luck tomorrow!

Jeff, for a former Pringle guy you're awefully suppportive of a liberal "republican." Does Curt know you've changed your stripes? I knew Curt back when I worked at the Capitol and Curt was a great guy, solid conservative and did much the same as McClintock back in the Assembly. Do you blame Curt for this stand against taxes and govt waste when he was Speaker? It's hard to understand that you actually worked for him at one time.

PJB - Don't worry, I am not a "former" Pringle guy. I talk to Curt still nearly every day.

You Republicans make me sick. Bush lied, Thousands Died, 3 Trillion $$ up in smoke. Republicans == Evil.

Pssst... Bill, some Republicans are evil. And yes we were lied into a war that has severely weakened this great nation. Some of us that are truly patriots can clearly see that. We are now in a mell of a hess.

And there are some really, really evil ones who are the original signatories of the neocon manifesto. And they about to pee their pants waiting to get it on with Iran. They are the one's who stand in the shadows with a flag lapel pin on their Seville Row suits and Gucci loafers.

My wife's candidate for most evil is someone she calls Rump Roast. My candidate for most evil is someone known as the Prince of Darkness.

My wife thinks it will take this country "a hundred years" to undo the damage. She says she never ever wants another Republican in the White House. I think that all us working together with rolled up sleeves can turn things around in eight years....
