PCRA Weekly Update - Interesting Snippet from Placer DEMS / Political Tidbits

Posted by: Aaron Park | 06/15/2008 10:01 AM

Blogger's Note - this is a once-a-week update of items from the Placer CRA Blog.

This interesting snippet was forwarded to my e-mailbox:

The 2008 Jefferson/Jackson Dinner, hosted by the Placer County Democratic Party took place at the Blue Goose Fruit Shed in Loomis. Our keynote speak was Lt. Governor John Garamendi and our featured speaker was Lt. Colonel Charles US Air Force, Ret Charlie Brown, candidate for Congress in Placer County's 4th District. The "Outstanding Public Service Lifetime Achievement" was presented to Alex Ferreira, the "most popular politician in the history of Placer County". Over 300 Democrats, Declined-to-States and Republicans attended the event.

Blogger's note - Please note that I did not edit this - but you have to credit the Brownies for getting behind their man. Also of note, is the Placer Democrat Central Committee website highlighting a donation to a local charity from a fund-raiser they held.

Alex Ferriera is a Democrat that when I goggled, I found a reference to on a UN website - yes that UN. Ferriera is on the Placer County Water Agency board from the 2nd supervisor district. He has been on the board for a long time and is connected up to the neck with Robert Weygant - the Liberal Republican supervisor from that district.

It also looks like the Auburn Journal is going to take an active role in the fall elections as well with their recent stories. Look for the Journal to endorse Jennifer Montgomery over Bruce Kranz and anyone but Aaron Klein for Sierra College board. You can read more HERE on the Auburn Journal's Jihad.

Recently, Mike Holmes and Tom McClintock spoke... most of you would expect that Holmes pledged to support McClintock. He didn't. In 2006, Holmes pretty much endorsed Charlie Brown - I wrote about this earlier this week. Given the fact that Holmes has been publicly critical of the Placer County GOP Central Committee - which he just got elected to... it makes you wonder if he is a Republican or a Democrat like Alex Ferriera.

Tom McClintock made his first public appearance on Thursday evening since winning the primary. Tom was the featured guest of the Placer County Republican Assembly 2nd quarter meeting. At that meeting, the Placer CRA gained 8 new memberships and I blogged about it as well.

Finally - there is some fire from up north in Butte County. You can read about that at the Placer CRA Blog. The Butte CRA got slammed by the Butte GOP for endorsing liberals.

Aaron P., you say:

Alex Ferriera is a Democrat that when I goggled, I found a reference to on a UN website - yes that UN. Ferriera is on the Placer County Water Agency board from the 2nd supervisor district. He has been on the board for a long time and is connected up to the neck with Robert Weygant - the Liberal Republican supervisor from that district."

Now let us look at this:

Alexander (Alex) Ferreira
Director
Mr. Ferreira serves as WHF's agricultural program coordinator. A native of Placer County, he is serving his sixth year on the board of directors of the Placer County Water Agency and served 24 years with the Placer County Board of Supervisors. A World War II veteran, Mr. Ferreira has also developed and maintained a dairy farm and a wine-grape vineyard. He currently raises cattle, rice, and hay, and oversees all farm management activities on his 900-acre family farm

Now a cut to Saving Private Ryan:

The film begins with an elderly veteran and his family visiting the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Normandy, France. The old man collapses to his knees in front of a gravestone, overcome with emotion…

Then the final scene…the elderly veteran is revealed to be Ryan at Miller's grave. Ryan asks his wife to confirm that he has been a 'good man' and thus worthy of Miller's and the others' sacrifice. He then salutes the Captain's grave as the camera pans down the gravestones to the American flag and fades out.

What is my point? For those of us who were born before WWII, we have reached an age where we take stock of our lives. We wonder whether we have lived the life of a “good man”.

I think that a jury of Alex Ferreira’s peers will find him to be a “good man”.
He has met our generation’s standards of a “good man”…

DUTY, HONOR, to FAMILY, COMMUNITY, COUNTRY….

Lee - my father is one year your senior btw... (Happy Father's Day right back at you)

So I will quote my Father - "Just because you are a good man, doesn't mean you're right". My point was purely political... just like my criticism of Charlie Brown.

Brown will attempt to hide behind his uniform, but ultimately, the issues will do him in with the voters just like they did with Ose.

Ferriera is a Good man who deserves to be replaced with someone who is more aligned with Placer County Values.

Alex Ferriera has understood and protected water rights and planed well for future water development... providing a predictable future for Placer's water needs... just what you would expect a director of PCWA to do. This is just as other directors have done such as former PCWA director Pauline Roccucci and current director Mike Lee.

Aaron, can you please give me some specifics where he has performed poorly as a PCWA director???? Again Aaron, please be specific where Alex made poor decisions as a director, and therefore must be replaced.

Aaron Park Author Profile Page said:

Ken - He is a Democrat. It is that simple.

In the words of Ron Nehring and others before him, "There is no such thing as a non-partisan office."

Unless of course as a former Placer GOP Chairman you are OK with Dems in local office. (Such as Rocucci when she was on that board...)

I know that you are anti-growth, Ken.

The basis of my comments was simply pointing out that the man is an entrenched Democrat - who you apparently support.

O.K. Aaron, he a Democrat, so that is the sole reason to get rid of him. Who is next, Eddie Bonner... because he is registered as a Democrat too? For the 5 years I was Republican chairman, when I saw Eddie at a Doolittle fundraiser, I would bring him a voter registration form and ask him to switch parties. Eddie would laugh and say his family has always been a Democrat; he has always been a Democrat even though his policies are more in line with Republicans. So Aaron, please put Placer Sheriff Ed Bonner on your list... because he is registered as a Democrat.

Alex, even though he is registered as a Democrat, has faithfully served on PCWA with policies that protect and develop our water resources in Placer County.... just as Republicans Mike Lee and Pauline Roccucci have. Alex is a wise old Lincoln farmer that understands water is life and with out water there is no life. So he wants to ensure there is ample water for all the current and future residence in Placer County. And yes, Alex is like Eddie Bonner whose family has always been Democrats... even though he acts more like a Republican than many Republicans.

So great Aaron, get rid of him solely because he is registered as a Democrat regardless of job performance. That is real thoughtful.

Oh goodie! Ken and Aaron are at it again. More fighting from the simpletons arguing about conservative vs liberal nonsense. I mean, this is the same Ken who bashed Ose for being a "liberal republican" but seems to whole heartedly endrose a democrat???

Welcome to wonderland folks...

Weird...Ken Campbell is blasting Aaron Park. The crazy right-winger is taking on the REALLY crazy right-winger.

The sentiment expressed in Aaron Park's half-literate writing is exactly why in terms of voter registration the Republican Party is dropping like a rock statewide. Maybe not in boring Placer County with its stoopid ag types on farms and ranches and its ugly neighbourhods of endless suburban sprawl residential tract housing full of middle-aged soccer moms carrying their precious snowflakes in minivans while daddy works in Roseville or Sacramento; but in the more sophisticated and educated parts of our state like the beautiful coastal counties (the real California) and Silicon Valley - the most educated region in the California - we Republicans are sinking fast.

When we finally dip below 30 percent, we can thank the CRA(zy) Republicans who cannot accept that they live in diverse California - and not Utah, Idaho or Wyoming.

Aaron, no offence, but you just don't respect or understand real California values.

Aaron Park Author Profile Page said:

I was wondering when the ghost of Ose was going to pop up again.

I would assume "Stop CRA" that attacking conservatives is OK in your mind even though you are going to need us to get McCain into office.

You can rail on Conservatives all you want - but there aren't enough cross-over Democrat voters to elect your candidates into office and that's a fact.

Also, please consider using an American English spellcheck as I prefer to be insulted in American English.

It is so hard to slow down and listen to wise men, read wise men, truly wise mee...when one is up to one's proverbial a-- in alligators. I'm aware of this just now. I picked up this book I bought 30 year ago. The truth is I was too busy to read much of it back then.

I opened it at random. And am in awe of the gentle wisdom that leaps out. It is:

A Teaching Seminar With MILTON H.ERICKSON

Milton is no longer with us in body...it failed him long ago...
but...

"Into each life some confusion should come
...also some enlightenment"

"And my voice goes everywhere with you, and
changes into the voice of your parents, your
teachers, your playmates and the voices of the
wind and the rain..."
Milton H. Erickson, M.D.

Slow down, Aaron, and listen to the wind and
the rain....

Stop Crazy,
It is interesting to me that you assume because we grew up on ranches in Lincoln that we are simple. Yet you assume that people from LA and the Bay Area are somehow sophisticated and know what's best for us. You want to go the way of the rest of the state. But for some reason people like you, probably you yourself, came from one of these more "sophisticated" areas. You moved here cause it was better. Then after you get here you try and change it to how it was where you came from "because thats how all the smart city folks do it everywhere else in california." Well I got news for you California sucks. I would live no where else but Placer County in this dreaded ass backward state. You say that other parts of the state of more educated? yeah I am sure the exit exam results of LA schools are supremely higher than that of Placer County. I was born in Roseville i work in Roseville and I live in Roseville. I happen to like it here. If you don't like it here leave please I beg you and take your stupid gang bangen, goth, Emo, inner city urban shit stick kids with you so our little "snowflakes" can have safe confertable lives. I am sorry we are to borring for you maybe you can go back to the Silicon Valley where you can rock your kids to sleep to the tune of Palo Alto gangmembers shooting each other in the street.

Oh and Stop Crazy, We don't live in the greater California we live in Placer County. Maybe you just don't respect or understand our values.

I'm proud to be from Placer County. I was born here. I went to school here. I left for a while and learned to appreciate it even more than Boston or New York City or even other places in California like San Diego or LA. Sure we don't have skyscrapers or fine-sand beaches. But we have amazingly beautiful hills and woods and people that I've been amazed and honored to get to know. We have liberal Democrats having lunch with conservative Republicans and we don't worry about things going too far.

I love Placer County because its more than just some backwater county far from the coast. We have resources and potential for so much, and it offends me when someone calls it less than it is. I am proud to be from Placer County.
