Hatred....or Envy?
Posted by: American Bulldog | 05/28/2008 7:42 AM
There are two reasons why I love bulldogs. First, they would rather watch TV with you than go for a walk. Second, they're the epitome of loyal.
Reading the follow-up commentary to Gov. Pete Wilson's factual statements regarding Senator Tom McClintock, it was good to see that the anti-Wilson crowd hadn't thrown away their playbook. Call Pete Wilson a liberal. Attack him as a RINO. Claim he destroyed the party.
Yawn.
I thought about the venom Team McCarpetbagger was spewing and it came to me. They don't hate Pete Wilson, they envy him. They wish they were him, and in fact, they're taking credit for his work.
Yep. You don't hate Pete Wilson. You wish you were him.
First, Pete Wilson wins elections. The only time Wilson lost an election was in 1976 when he ran for governor. Otherwise, he's unbeatable. That's got to drive Team McAttackdog crazy.
Second. Pete Wilson gets things done. Memo to Team McTheCarTaxCutWasOurIdea, Pete Wilson signed the car tax cut. You voted against it. In fact, you were the only legislator in either party to vote against it.
Memo to John Stoos. I read the 10 page justification you sent yesterday trying to claim the earth is flat and that Senator McClintock was the father of the car tax cut. The truth is that McClintock was the only person who opposed the bill and he obviously couldn't get any additional support for further reductions. Team Wilson got the car tax cut, working collaboratively with Republicans and Democrats.
Third. Pete Wilson fights for Republicans. He raised millions to try and help Tom McClintock get elected to statewide office; when McClintock's Campaign was floundering, Wilson threw them the life preserver. But even then, Team McPerDiem couldn't cross the finish line.
No, you don't hate Pete Wilson. You envy him. He fought and won spending cuts totalling more than $7 billion in real reductions, not reduced spending increases. McClintock hasn't accomplished that. He reformed workers compensation. He supported law enforcement and made our streets safer. And, he won fair redistricting which helped produce a REPUBLICAN MAJORITY in the State Assembly....let me repeat that...a REPUBLICAN MAJORITY.
So if you're looking for a leader that has the respect of not only his colleagues but the members of both parties, look no further than Gov. Pete Wilson. You can attack him all you want, but you cannot deny the truth. He was the leader of the Republican Party. Senator McClintock has never even been elected leader of his caucus.
McClintock would rather that people didn't get a car tax cut at all if they didn't get HIS proposed car tax cut. The fact is there was no support for McClintock's version.
So the truth is that you don't hate Pete Wilson, you really hate the fact that Pete Wilson delivered when you only barked. He's the bulldog.
Wilson's endorsement is a powerful example of the importance of achievement. He got things done and he knows Doug Ose can do the same. Wilson was right when he said that you can't count on Tom McClintock. And while he said it, it's likely that many Republican elected officials have lived the same experience.
To win in politics, you need to have a thick skin and the ability to put the needs of constituents ahead of personal agendas. That's why leaders throughout Placer County, city council members, supervisors, public safety, taxpayers and business groups have all endorsed Doug Ose. They know he's in it to help them.
Perhaps it's more than coincidental that Senator McClintock's Campaign Website is called HelpTom. I'd say it's perfectly named.

Mitch,
Where to begin! Pete Wilson was a great campaigner and he did win elections because unlike his governance, he ran as a conservative using Term Limits in the 1990 race and Prop 187 in 1994 to hammer his democrat opponents! I might point out that Arnold also campaigned as a conservative using the car tax as one of his major issues.
I don't even think Pete would claim that he raised "millions" for Senator McClintock to campaign statewide, so I will leave that alone!
The car tax history is what it is and even the Los Angeles Times, which we know is no friend of Senator McClintock's, had to admit that he was the driving [pun intended] force behind those reductions.
And finally, just to show that we have some REAL revisionist history going on here, please show us the $7 billion of REAL spending cuts that Governor Wilson enacted: Give the specific years and expenditure levels please.
What the poor taxpayers of California got with the great Wilson compromise was a match of $7 billion in phony spending cuts matched with $7 billion of REAL tax increases that did severe damage to the California economy and actually REDUCED state revenues year over year. Perhaps that is the reduction you thought was spending.

When McClintock wins next week, how about recommending to the Rocklin City Council members up for re-election, and lets identify them as the tax and spend city council, that they not run for re-election.
I think I've learned something this morning. When backed into a corner, one gets out by saying, "I will leave that alone" or profess the Los Angeles Times to be the standard bearer of truth.
Let's not leave 1994 alone for it speaks volumes about the differences between Senator McClintock and Governor Wilson. It is fact that Wilson raised and spent millions to try and help Tom McClintock get elected. Wilson has said it and you and I were both there to see it. It is also fact that McClintock appeared to relish not doing anything to help Wilson or anyone else.
Again, notwithstanding the gospel according to the LA Times, please explain why McClintock was the only opponent of the enacted car tax legislation, Republican or Democrat? And, follow up question, please explain why McClintock could not generate any momentum at all for additional car tax cuts?
Wilson has delivered for all Republicans, even those with whom he personally disagreed. McClintock has done no such thing.
That is why he's never been elected leader of his own caucus.
Bulldog,
dont make me puke. Envy? why would I envy a tax raising, unprincipled democrat disguised as a repub. I envy him as much as I envy our current unprinipled idiot governor. The "Repubican leadership" is part of the problem...
Hey American Bullsh*t,
What's your prediction for the election? Come on, out in the open with it!
Mark
I have never met with you. I think that we share a lot of common values. I am as you know, an USAF Ssgt.’s father. I great respect your service in the USAF and your continued “big picture” knowledge of the USAF.
Yes, there is a “however” here. You have at least twice at this blog site made reference to…
“When McClintock wins next week, how about recommending to the Rocklin City Council members up for re-election, and lets identify them as the tax and spend city council, that they not run for re-election.”
For this centrist and I would suspect a lot of other centrists, this has more than a whiff of political purge ala the JD political machine. I lived in Boss Daley’s Chicago. I don’t want that. Just to mention one example, the Sierra College fiasco comes to mind. I don’t want some machine trying to micro-manage local governing bodies. Where would it stop? At the city level, or by extension even into BOD elections in mega HOAs such as where I live.
We, post-JD, now have a chance to get a fresh start. We live in a diverse, pluralistic society in this area. Time to let a little fresh air in….
I loved Bongo's comment. I'll quote a friend in response:
"John Stoos said:
Senator McClintock learned his leadership from President Reagan who said a lot can be accomplished if we don't worry about who got the credit!
Even the Democrats had to admit that Tom beat them on this one and it is California families that now benefit year after year.
John"
President Reagan also raised taxes in times of unparalleled economic crisis, worked collaboratively with Republicans and Democrats and - of course - offered the 11th Commandment. I'm glad that McClintock learned from Reagan...now, it's time to put it in practice.
So, I guess you won't give a prediction huh.... Here's mine: Tom 57%, Ose 38%
Mitch - NICE BOMB!
Now, here's where you missed your target (eg B-52 over the gulf of tonkin bombing the water...)
First off - I understand your loyalty to Governor FIR. One of his appointees just voted to shove Gay Marriage down our throats.
Second - Wilson was a mixed bag as far as the CRA was concerned. Wilson routinely fought against conservatives. Wilson and Ose are ideaological clones. I'd bet that if we looked up Wilson's US Senate record, it would be a bit to the Right of Ose's horrid congressional record - which would still peg Wilson as a liberal.
"To win in politics, you need to have a thick skin and the ability to put the needs of constituents ahead of personal agendas. That's why leaders throughout Placer County, city council members, supervisors, public safety, taxpayers and business groups have all endorsed Doug Ose. They know he's in it to help them."
Let me re-phrase - "In order to be a part of the club, you have to make accomodations"... "That's why Ose's club exists, they are lined up for their earmarks and have decided to overlook Ose's stances on the social issues, the borders and Government Spending"
Mitch - that is called a moral compromise.
This is why McClintock can be made a target of - he does not squish, he is consistent and gets shot at as a result. That is leadership - does not get you a title, just a target.
I leave you with a final thought - if Tom was so ineffective, why are all the Moderate/Liberal Republicans out to get him?
Someone who poses no threat to the MainStreet vision of a moral relativism / the sham of fiscal conservativism would not draw such opposition and fire.
Meantime - your Ose is on a psychotic rampage. Can't wait to see the next check he dumps in. (and the next attack - this has got to be bothering you, too...)
To the American Puppy:
Your former boss took an issue that was so popular and populist that Democrats in focus groups thought ONLY Democrats would propose getting rid of the car tax and turned it into a tax increase: Yes, just like the phony budget deal the Wilson plan said we could have maybe some small reductions BUT only if you found offsetting money [read tax increases] somewhere else: That is why Senator McClintock voted no and it was what keep the issue alive!
Tom's 1994 run was opposed by almost all of the establishment Republican and you can check the campaign reports to prove there were NO "millions" raised for him, in fact you won't even find a million dollars. More money was given to Cathy Wright who had NO chance of winning rather than any to McClintock who had the closest margin in state history that year.
Sorry to confuse your spin with facts, but that is the way things were!
John
Bongo, I edited your comment, but are you saying that the 30 point lead has already slipped to 19?
Aaron says:
Mitch - that is called a moral compromise.
Aaron, I take it that you are not into moral compromise. Yet you were JD's chief internet booster/appologist when you knew full well JD was in with those clubby log-rollers, up to his ears (no pun intended) with that crowd. And that is putting it mildly.
The way of integrity was offered to you months and months ago. It still is there. It is yours to accept, and you can still be involved in the political life of this wonderful area. The Nazarene never takes this offer off the table.
"Tom's 1994 run was opposed by almost all of the establishment Republican"
Speaks volumes about Tom's leadership qualities.
"You can check the campaign reports to prove there were NO "millions" raised for him, in fact you won't even find a million dollars."
See previous comment. However, John, you forget or ignore the millions that Wilson spent for the ticket which included McClintock. Millions for door hangers, a field program, campaign events. Yes John, millions.
"More money was given to Cathy Wright who had NO chance of winning rather than any to McClintock who had the closest margin in state history that year."
And why, for the third time do you think that is? Is it possible that the majority of Republicans are right?
So simple, a puppy is all that's necessary to respond.
Lee
I agree that the JTD machine was involved in getting certain people elected in Placer County. In fact Ted "in my pocket" Gaines would of never been elected to the Assembly if it were not for the JTD machine.
I agree we need to put an end to the machine politics in Placer County. When I ran for the Rocklin School Board the machine of Ted "in my pocket" Gaines and the Rocklin City Council attacked me because I would not keep my mouth shut about things that were wrong in the Rocklin School District. For example, I brought up the drug problem in Rocklin Schools. The Rocklin School Board and the Rocklin City Council did not want that information to get out to the public. Both groups denied there was a problem. What happened after the election? The Rocklin School District hired a person to be the district expert on drugs in our schools. She provides important information to Rocklin families.
The machine of unethical people like Rocklin City Councilman Peter Hill try to control the local campaigns. At least we will not need to worry about an Ose machine because he will be shown the door out of the 4th CD on June 3.

I will never stop defending Doolittle's Innocence or his record that was excellent until recently.
What I did not know then that I do now would have been sufficient enough to have kept me on the sidelines. However, this does not exempt the opportunists seeking revenge or personal betterment at Doolittle's expense.
The lesson learned for me is going to war for someone you don't know real well.
That being said, the Republican feeding frenzy - including Ose, who was angling for the seat some 14 months ago was appalling.
The behavior of people close to Doolittle has made me look silly for defending Doolittle. They brought Doolittle down, and now are the chief architects of the Ose machine and everything it represents.
I prefer to remember the Doolittle I first got acquainted with in 1998, right after I first moved here.
Fair enough Lee?
Aaron
To be fair to you, (and this is an inference on my part)JD was not that easy to know and that was by his design. He did not stay stationary around these pasts to allow folks to see the leaking crankcase of his soul show stains on the pavement.
I believe John S has spent a lot of time with Tom up close and personal, and has some insight into his soul. I would like to hear John speak about his personal observations, the unsanitized version...
Lee,
That is pretty simple because with Tom what you see is what you get. He is an honest man who strongly believes in and supports the liberties that have made our nation great.
You can go to his State Senate web site and read his speeches, columns and press releases for the past many years and find something on just about any subject. Please believe me when I tell you that he has written all of his own material: In fact, we found out in the McClintock office that the quickest way to NOT have something put out was to give him a suggested column or even extensive talking points. I think it is mostly the old cautious columnist in him needing to be original, but he also knew that once he worked through something he was more comfortable making his case to the public.
What folks in Ventura [except for a few disgruntled elected officials that Tom opposed] have found through the years is that Tom will also let them know where he stands and they have appreciated this even when they do not agree on a particular issue. I have no reason to doubt it will not be the same in the 4th CD.
Hope this helps and thanks for asking.
John
I think we can all agree that even when a great man like JD could get caught up in the power/spending/politics of Washington DC, it is without question that we need term limits at every level of public office.
Dear Anonymous,
Amen to that!
Ironic, isn’t it, that the first time I met Tom McClintock was when my dad, who authored California’s Term Limits Initiative (Prop. 140), introduced me to Tom during a pro-Prop. 140 rally in Simi Valley. There was Tom, a young assemblyman in all his glory extolling the virtues of a citizen legislature run by representatives who served for a short while and then went back to the private sector.
Yes, this is the same Tom McClintock who refused to stand up to protect Prop. 140 when it was under assault from Don Perrata and now seeks to continue his political career into its third decade. So much for the “citizen legislature”.
