Dirty Campaigning is Nothing New to Team Horne

I have a major problem with bald-faced lies in campaign mailers and advertisements.
Why
couldn't Horne attack Logue for being bought by developers - why get
people who had been compensated fairly after levees were moved (to
accommodate their orchards) to lend themselves to a fallacious attack?
Is
it because Horne has nothing else to go on? What's next - another David
Reade concoction of a fake newspaper like he did to Rico Oller several
years ago to make unfounded allegations? The Ose people jumped on that
stuff and their anon comment squad were calling Rico a wife-beater in 2008, some 8 years later. (Ose also used that crap in 2004 when he sent a mailer attacking Oller's marriage on behalf of fellow Moderate Dan Lungren)
Class.
Horne has aligned herself with some people whose MO is brass-knuckled attacks just like Ose.
Take a look at October 2004:
From the Red Bluff Daily News 10/28/2004:
(The excerpt was found on a blog - the actual article requires an archive search to find)
"The
final in a series of three candidates nights drew about 120 people to
the Red Bluff Elks Lodge on Wednesday night... Tehama County Supervisor
Barbara McIver is running for the Second District Assembly seat against
Assemblyman Doug LaMalfa. McIver noted her opponent's absence and
responded to a recent LaMalfa advertisement allegedly connecting her to
porn king and casino owner Larry Flynt. 'It's almost embarrassing to
have to respond to this. It's absolutely categorically untrue,' said
McIver. 'I can't believe that I have to stand up here and say I did not
take money from Larry Flynt.'"
Damn it anyway, Doug! You
didn't need to tie your lame-ass Democrat opponent to Larry Flynt! She
is active in her community, and while wrong for being a Democrat, did
not deserve that crap!
The Chico News and Review chimed in: (Do not miss the fact that the CNR
is decidedly biased against anything Republican, but their opinion
holds merit... because Immoral action to yield a just result is still
immoral)

When she's down, smack her
There
was never much chance that Democrat Barbara McIver would defeat Doug
LaMalfa in the Nov. 2 race for the state Assembly in District 2, which
is heavily Republican. But that didn't stop LaMalfa's campaign manager
(and chief of staff), David Reade, from running a last-minute TV hit
piece that marked a new low, even by Reade's questionable standards.
The
advertisement in question, which tried to say that McIver was getting
support from "porn king" Larry Flynt, he of Hustler fame, was a tissue
of deceits based only on the fact that Flynt had bought some
anti-LaMalfa ads in retaliation for a LaMalfa vote against Flynt's
Southern California gambling interests.
The
long-married McIver, who has four children and is a deacon in her
church, hadn't received a penny from Flynt and had never met the man.
LaMalfa won handily.
What was Reade thinking? If you figure it out let us know.
It is 2008, four years later - and we are still waiting for an answer.

I am an illegal immigrant who got citizenship via marrying a lady who is a documented citizen of the Golden State. I snuck in from this place called Indiana about 8 years ago. So culturally I am a Hoosier.**
This negative campaigning out here bewilders me. Hoosiers had no truck for that. They consistently censured this practice at the ballot box. And they still do as evidenced by their most recent primary.
So would someone tell me why negative campaigning seems to be very much part of the culture out here?
** I do work hard everyday to read, write, and speak California. I truly want to assimilate to this culture...
Where's the violin music?
First, arch-appeaser and friend of terrorists Barack Obama, whines about President Bush's speech in Israel condemning liberal appeasement prior to World War II.
Now, brazen attack-blogger Aaron Park is whining about negative campaigning. Give me a break!!!!
Perhaps Obama and Park should join forces and start a "Pathetic Whiners Caucus".
Chris - I find your comment ironic since you consult on the hit pieces that the CRA sends out in races we have endorsed in.
The difference between the CRA, myself and team Horne is the truthfulness upon which the attack is based.
You knew this...
I don't need to whine - I just campaign.
Sometime after this cycle is over, we should have breakfast.
Dirty Campaigning is fine by me.
Advice I give to all candidates is to REFUSE to sign California's voluntary 'Code of Fair Campaign Practices.' The last thing any candidate needs is MORE regulations as they run for office; you want every possible tool at your disposal.
You can study the Fair Campaign Practices yourself:

One thing folks seem to miss with dirty or negative campaigning is whether or not it FEELS GOOD. One should avoid campaign strategies that are boring, or leave a bad taste in people's mouth. I've been having to endure several Ose vs. McClintock attacks a week in person, and it bores me to tears watching them whine and bicker back and forth over mindless guilt by association gambits and so on, ESPECIALLY knowing that they're holding back, pulling punches, not going for blood. If attacks on the campaign trail are motivating or exciting or anything remotely interesting, sure, we all could use more of that, but boring should be avoided at all costs.
