Butte County GOP Censures Sue Horne and Doug Ose
Posted by: Aaron Park | 05/16/2008 6:53 AM
Doug Ose now has the distinction of being censured by three County Central Committees.
In 1998, the Glenn and Yolo County Republican Central Committees Censured Ose for dirty campaigning. In 2008, Butte added itself to the list of Republican Committees fed up with Ose's boorish Campaigning. This weekend, a follow-up story will appear.
Not to be outdone - Sue Horne whose campaign has floundered most of 2008, launched one of the most aggressive and egregious campaign attacks seen in Northern California in the 2008 cycle.
The Yuba County Republican Central Committee acted swiftly and decisively - they Censured Sue Horne for her desperate half-truths in the attack. Butte County has joined Yuba County in Censuring Sue Horne's campaign tactics.

(Chico) The Butte County Republican Party on Thursday voted to censure Doug Ose, candidate for Congress, and Sue Horne, a candidate for State Assembly. This was a disciplinary action taken against Ose and Horne for negative and misleading campaign ads against their respective Republican opponents, Tom McClintock and Dan Logue.
Doug Ose's ads were called into question for misleading statements about Tom McClintock's use of per diem in the California Legislature. Sue Horne was likewise criticized for a recent mailer falsely accusing Dan Logue of abusing eminent domain powers as a Yuba County Supervisor.
"Republicans hold their candidates to high standards," said Steve Thompson, Chairman of the committee, "and our membership felt that the Ose and Horne campaigns had gone too far. Their attacks were underhanded and dishonest, and we had to speak out against conduct we believed to be unbecoming of Republican candidates."
Jim Ledgerwood, an executive member of the committee, believed the attacks went against the spirit of Ronald Reagan. "All we're asking is that Ose and Horne run clean campaigns on the issues," said Ledgerwood, "if they can't win with a positive message, do we really want them representing our party in elected office?"
The move by the Butte County Republican Party to censure follows the recent censure of Sue Horne by the Yuba County Republican Party.

Where were the "high standards" when McClintock made false claims that Ose voted to allow illegal aliens to collect social security? Oh, I know the rationale for those statements--but it's bunk, just as much bunk as making it sound like McClintock took more per diem than anyone else when in fact he took the same as most everybody else (which still doesn't make it right, btw).
Let's call these "censures" what they are--political games. Who will censure the GOP County Central Committees for playing politics with censures of Republican candidates for office?
One question for the Butte Co Reps - What is Tom being reimbursed for?
Bob,
The distinction is that Ose vote was based on facts: Happy to send them to you again if you like.
John
John,
Please share with us your great knowledge on Totalization Agreements. I'm sure it will as good as Tom's excuse for screwing over Vets.
Since Senator McClintock has never been guilty of "screwing over vets" I guess I don't understand the point of your comment
Bob - you will receive more information than you like about Doug Ose's history with County Central Committees.
That is coming this weekend. However, you have established for all of us that your mind is closed. But, for the benefit of you and your friends on the Democrat Central Committee - you will get to see how the GOP in Northern CA disciplines its' candidates that stoop to get elected.
