Dan Logue Endorsed by Sac Metro Chamber!

Responds to Disturbing Attack by Horne

As Logue is piling up a huge list of Law Enforcement Endorsements, the Sac Metro Chamber endorsed him this morning.

I am sure Logue will have a press release coming soon.

I guess Doug Ose is not the only one who is desperate to get traction in a failing campaign - Sue Horne launched an attack mailer against Dan Logue that was a complete fabrication...

Logue's Campaign responded below:

Deceitful Horne Mailer Gets Facts Wrong
Logue Demands Apology

Republican Assembly candidate Dan Logue today demanded an apology from Sue Horne for the outrageously deceitful mailer she sent out this weekend.

Horne put out a mailer that quoted Yuba Farmers Tom and Jeanette Rice as saying, "Supervisor Dan Logue and his cronies stole our land...He wouldn't listen. He just voted to steal our farm."

The mailer went on to claim that Logue "abused the power of eminent domain" to take the land (for public safety.)

The reality is that:

The Rices were paid $155,000 (more that two times its market value) for six acres of orchard.  After which they publicly and repeatedly said they were "pleased" with the settlement. Appeal Democrat September 21, 2007 View Story

Dan Logue listened to Mr. Rice on six separate occasions that can be documented.  At those meetings, Mr. Rice described the settlement as a 'win-win"
situation that was necessary for public safety.

Given the intentionally deceitful nature of the Horne mailer, Dan Logue has demanded Sue Horne to apologize.

Logue stated, "The record is clear. The record is public.  Sue Horne blatantly disregarded the truth, She owes me and the voters of the 3rd District an apology for intentionally deceiving voters for political gain."

FACT SHEET

Why Eminent Domain was Used on the Rice Property

Without the use of the Rice's property, Three Rivers Levee Improvement Authority (TRLIA) would not been able to widen the levee as required by California Department of Water Resources.

Without the land, Yuba County would not have received the $135 Million in levee repair funds.

Without the Rice's land, residents of Plumas Lakes and other communities would have been in danger of suffering from massive catastrophic floods.

In fact, TRLIA engineer Rick M. Rienhard said use of eminent domain was necessary to prevent a Katrina like flood that would have cost taxpayers and homeowners $2 billion.

The land was not stolen.  The Rice Family was paid $155,000.

The September 21, 2007 Appeal Democrat article goes on to say that the original offer from the county to buy six acres was $18,000 per acre, but Rice said "she was not concerned with money."

Tom and Jeanette Rice were paid $155,000 for six acres - over $30,000/per acre or twice the going rate for orchard land.

In a September 21, 2007 article entitled "Farmer, Agency Find Accord on Levee Move,"  the Appeal Democrat reports that Jeanette Rice of the agreement, "We are pleased...we wanted the whole lot but we know that can't be done.  We are realistic. Compromise is good."

Supervisor Dan Logue did listen - at least six times -- and has proof.

Supervisor Logue serves on the Three Rivers Levee Improvement Authority.  Mr. Rice testified before that board on December 21, 2007; November 16, 2007;October 19, 2007; September 21, 2007; September 11, 2007, and August 17, 2007.  Each time Dan Logue was present and listening.  The official minutes of the meeting record Mr. Rice's comments.

But, once again Sue Horne's campaign failed to document Mr. Rice's glowing comments toward the arrangements between him and the levee authority.

Here are some of Tom Rice's comments:

"We have in place a potential solution that provides the same desired high standard of public safety while still working to preserve a valuable sustainable agriculture. -December 21, 2007

"It needs to be clearly understood that this proposal we are working through fully serves public safety as well as allowing the survival of a valuable part of the community. It is a win-win and it needs to be seen through. -November 16, 2007

"I have no material disagreements with the proposal that TRLIA has presented and I will let that sink in.  We have no material disagreements." - September 21, 2007
