Ose Votes Against School Choice

With the recent court ruling against home schooling, one should be concerned specifically about the future of home schooling, and generally about the future of school choice.  Should parents be able to choose where their children are educated?  Of course if you ask people that question in the 4th Congressional district, you will get a resounding, "yes!"  If you ask former Sacramento Congressman Doug Ose that question, he will no doubt say, "yes".  But remember the rule, "Don't listen to what a Washington politician tells you, rather look at what they do and how they vote."  When Ose had the opportunity to vote on school choice, he voted against it.

On May 23, 2001 Ose voted against an Army (R-TX) amendment to the Education Bill (HR 1) that would have provided scholarships (i.e. vouchers) for students from consistently low-performing or dangerous schools.  Ose voted against the likes of Dick Army, John Doolittle, Wally Herger and JC Watts; and he voted with Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Maxine Waters and disgraced Gary Condit (roll call vote # 135).

It seems Doug Ose only believes in school choice for his two daughters, but he wants to deprive everyone else of school choice.  Time for the Homeschoolers for Tom McClintock to come together.
