Early Results, Trends on Election Night

Polls have just closed in Placer County and across the Golden State, and early results (at least from back east) indicate a big night for Senator John McCain and one big surprise... the success of Mike Huckabee, especially in southern states.
Most troubling for Mitt Romney: He is currently running in 3rd place in what has become the base of the modern Republican Party - the South. In Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas and Alabama, Romney is in 3rd place.
However, more importantly (at least locally) the first results from Placer County are in, and with about 22% reporting, McCain leads with just over 40% of the vote, with Romney in second at about 30%.
Looks to be a fun evening.
