Religion Baiting goes National - Anti Romney Polls Strike
Posted by: Aaron Park | 11/17/2007 8:32 AM
As you will read from the two articles linked GOP Presidential front-runner, Mitt Romney has been attacked in apparent push polls for being a Mormon. These occurred in IOWA and New Hampshire.
Could this tactic be a reflection of a societal trend against religion of any sort? Or is this a hail-Mary pass by an opponent?
This is quite concerning as I am wondering if in a few years this kind of stuff will be done against Evangelical Christians.
We have seen religion-baiting in the 4th CD race by an opponent of John Doolittle, but much more mildly in comparison to what is reported in the articles being used against Romney. This is the danger of such tactics, they backfire as often as they work.
Could this be the desperation of the Guiliani people?, while Rudy is publicly denying involvement one could assume that he or McCain are behind these.

I sincerely hope the folks behind these push polls are just a splinter or deranged nutbags.

In this case I think people are concerned because they view the Morman religion as a cult with strange beliefs that defy any connection to Christianity. The Book of Mormon was the second stick to compliment the first stick, the Bible. That's nuts to Christians. Joespeh Smith dictated the Book of Morman from a sheet as if he were getting the information from an angel. Smith was Bible expert and the Book of Mormon in many ways reflects this knowledge. We're asked to believe on faith this happened just like Smith said. Christians strongly doubt it. Joseph Smith taught that South America was a great empire that rivalled Egypt, thats nuts according to the evidence and time lines established by modern science. Good mormon men will become like lesser Gods in charge of their own planets and they will have many women to service them. Thats nuts to many Christians. There are a few hundred other wacky things Mormons believe, but if a man who would believe this nonsense and wants to become President what else could he be sold?
Correction, the line that said from a sheet should have read from behind a sheet and I mispelled "Joseph" and "Mormon". I knew better but it's only my second year in typing class!
I really want to vote FOR somebody, not the lesser of the..., well, you know. It's really frustrating these days with so much information about our candidates, no one is allowed to look heroic or saintly. What happened to the good old days when ignorance was bliss? A new harsh reality is forced upon us! The ever present media has their job almost too good; is such a thing as too much information...like reporting if Bill wore boxers or briefs. Some things I just don't want to know! lol
On another level, do the details of Newt's divorce 15 years ago really matter now? Is Rudy's more recent divorce even relevant? And in all this detail, just how much is just tabloid journalism?
Democrats argued Bill's sexual escapades were nobody's business, saying, all that matters was his performance as a leader. But, I think they were wrong because what happens in the White House, unlike Vegas, does not stay in the White House. Exploits long before the White House... forgivable - exploits in the White House - not.
I know we would all like our President to be pure as the driven snow, free from undue partisan interests and any taint of corruption, but, and this is a big but, (no pun intended lol) he can't get there from here without undue partisan influence and tainting!
By the time a candidate has risen this far through the political ranks he (or maybe some day she) it is safe to assume he/she has all but made a deal with the devil.
This sucks, but it's the reality of politics and how our elections are really structured. You apparently want it that way because you have never demanded any changes. Course you also tolerate broken campaign promises, pork spending and unethical practices in government, so why should I have any right to expect more from voters, but I still do and I have hope for a better future.
In closing, there are no checks and balances in elections. This is a free-for-all game... and what few rules we have get bent and twisted like pretzels. It's a miracle we can stomach voting for anybody who would be powerful enough to become President! ; )
NOTE - THIS IS A CUT AND PASTED E-MAIL SENT TO ME... (posted in its' entirety)
To be critical of one's religion is "un-American".
That Mitt is Mormon, fits his awarded liberty according to the Founding Father's opinion of Father God's liberty referenced by our (their)Declaration of Independent and our US Constitution. To be critical of a man's religion, (minus radical beliefs and actions of Islam, which is an ideology of hatred), is not a core, conservative ideal.
It seems to be a weak, political ploy.
Consider, even God allows us to be "wrong religiously" and yet His love, grace, mercy and respect is still directed toward us. This is a sad day for the Republican party.
Again, I may not agree 'at all' with the Mormon Bible, doctrine or theology, (and I don't) but saying that Romney is wrong choice "because of religion", well...is "un-American" and "un-conservative".
Case closed.
And, this is where Aaron Kerry-Parks sermon is just getting started. Dont be judgmental when I, Aaron Kerry-Park tell you how to view my world ploy.
To try and drag religion into politics is only to muddy the waters so no one can see the real issues. Hard to call mormonism a cult with over 10 million members world wide. And is the bible really true? Did some guy really get swallowed by a whale and lived there for a while? Did that guy Moses really just wave his hands and the red sea parted and people walked across on dry ground? So is Christianity any better than Judism? Why is one christian church different than another. Which church is right? So is a Luthern canidate for president better than a Catholic just because Martin Luther was right? I don't know. But if a canidate follows some sort of conviction of at least trying, that has got to be better than Clinton(s). But then, that is just me.
Aaron,
Not to be critical of false religions is unchristian.
You've made it pretty clear that your first loyalty is to conservatism.
