I will leave it to commenters to speculate on the significance, or lack thereof, of this announcement:
Gordon Hinkle, 34, of Roseville, has been appointed deputy press secretary for the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He has served as communications director and senior field representative for Congressmember John Doolittle since February 2007. From 2006 to 2007, Hinkle was senior consultant to the California Assembly Republican Caucus. Previously, he served as communications director for State Senator Jim Battin from 2001 to 2006. Prior to that, Hinkle worked for Hewlett Packard as a logistics process analyst from 2000 to 2001. He is a member of the Roseville Planning Commission. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $87,132. Hinkle is a Republican.

Et al:
Your comment was over the top. Sorry. A comment about Hinkle "leaving a sinking ship" would be appropriate. Saying he is going to prepare a cell for someone who has not been indicted is not.

Jeff:
decision accepted. But, seriously? It was a joke. Do you really think it's out of line to imply that John Doolittle could face criminal charges in the future? I said nothing that every major news outlet hasnt already implied... i just tried to make it a little funny.
And for the record, 4 out of the 5 people I mentioned in that joke ARE indicted and 3 ARE already convicted.
There is a strike right now and i think we're all hungry for some late night political humor. Besides, there are a lot worse congressmen-in-prison jokes i could have made... I thought i had kept it G rated.
For all the not-funny vitriol that you let AP post on the main page, you couldnt have let joke slide? But it's your blog...
