CRA Convention Update (6:45AM 11/11/2007)

The CRA convention has been heavily attended so far.
Compared to the last 6 years of conventions, the attendance has been excellent.
There have been speakers lined up 3 deep all day on Saturday. So I will sort out the best tidbits for you so far.
I sat on the Endorsements Committee on Friday and we took the following positions... (feb 2008 election)
Prop 91 - closes loopholes in Prop 42, the Prop that directs that Gas tax money can only be used for roads. Will constitutionally eliminate any ability to suspend it's directives. Support
Prop 92 - consitiutional spending mandate for Community Colleges. Mirrors the budget busting education funding mandate that passed under Gray Davis - Oppose
Prop 93 - Term Limits "reform" - Would allow Don Perata and Fabian Nunez (and Mark Leno, Sheila Kuehl... etc etc etc) to continue to infest the legislature another 6-8 years. Oppose
Prop ? - California Property Owners and Farmland Protection Act - Support
Prop ? - The Homeowners and Private Property Protection Act - (put up by the league of cities to confuse voters about KELO decision reform) - Oppose
SB 777 Referendum - Oppose (on a referendum, you take the place of the legislature... so a no vote overturns SB 777) goto www.saveourkids.com to learn more.
Referendums to overturn the 4 gaming compacts - Support (as in affirm) Without typing a book - the referendums were put on the ballot by unions looking to force their way in on those tribes.
Flouridation of public drinking water - Oppose
Friday Night was Tom McClintock who can deliver as usual. Standing ovations were the order of the night.
Saturday morning started with Dan Logue introducing Chris Simcox - Logue shared a couple of stories about tangling with Public school administrators and Simcox talked for about 40 min on the war on our borders.
The vendors at our convention spoke next, including Eric Hogue and Eric Egland.
At Lunch, former State Senator Rico Oller introduced Keynote speaker John Doolittle. Doolittle was well received by the CRA, Rico Oller is a folk-hero of the CRA like McClintock.
The afternoon was dotted with appearances - Mimi Walters led off and Ted Gaines was among those who spoke.
The second afternoon session featured CRP National Committeeman Tim Morgan announcing he has been elected treasurer of the RNC and that he is running for re-election. Also prominent in the afternoon was CRP Vice-Chairman Tom Del Becarro speaking about his new book. All were well received as Keith Carlson (CRP treasurer) and Steve Baric (CRP Secretary) in addition to the other two were endorsed by the CRA.
Of Note was a firey 20 minute rant by Alan Keyes. Keyes spent most of his time railing on other Presidential candidates in an obvious attempt to influence the outcome of our endorsement later this morning.
The Dinner has former Senator Jim Talent, an articulate God-Fearing Christian from Missouri speaking on behalf of Mitt Romney and Assemblymember Chuck DeVore speaking on behalf of Fred Thompson.
This morning's prayer breakfast will feature Eric Hogue delivering the message with Assemblyman Rick Keene leading worship.
My prediction for the CRA endorsements are that the endorsement committee's report will get adopted.
My prediction for the CRA presidential endorsement is that the Guilliani representative is going to try and get the Thompson and Paul people to join them to block a CRA endorsement of Romney. (note, I used a singular term for Guilliani representative)

Aaron I noticed that you used a singular form of representative relating to Giuliani's guy. That is really neat!
What did Eric Egland talk about Aaron Kerry-Park?
Aaron as you and many of your readers know I am a conservative republican candidate in the 3rd Assembly, also a CRA member and a past county chair.
I have a question on Prop 93. I have a lot riding on the defeat of Prop 93, but I am concerned that if it fails we (gop) will lose not only Tom McClintock, but possibly several others in the senate and the assembly and that could give the Dems a 2/3rd majority in either house or possibly both!
If that should happen there goes all of our republican budget clout.
I dearly want to win a seat in the 3rd district assembly because of the great changes and reforms I could bring before the legislature, but I am now considering which way to vote on 93.
From the start I was absolutely sure we should defeat it, but in light of these new realities, I'm not so sure.
I have pledged to always put the best interests of the people ahead of self interest and if Prop 93 fails and we see Dems picking up seats in both houses as a result, then that is beyond terrible for conservatives.
In that case I would sooner support 93, even if it ruins my election.
Your comments on this would be greatly appreciated.
