The elephant in the room?

Matt Rexroad, who is a County Supervisor in Yolo, posted a short piece on the Flashreport that is worth mentioning here, if only for the fact that it is timely and relevant to the current political situaton in Placer County.
Supervisor Rexroad's posting is brief, but certainly thought provoking, especially given what is happening in Southern California to Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona and his wife.
A portion is posted below, and here is the full link.
OK -- I will say something if no one else will
by Supervisor Matt RexroadThere seems to be an elephant in the web that people are not willing to deal with.
For several years many Republicans were not happy with the performance of Congress on a host of issues.
Many people want to blame Iraq as the reason that Republicans lost control of Congress. Nope. That is why the far left was upset. The reason Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have bigger offices in Washington is that Republicans were viewed as corrupt. That is how the people in the middle viewed it anyway. Corruption is why Republicans lost a majority of Congress...
...When is it about the elected official and when is it about the ideas of limited government and personal freedoms that Republicans stand for?

Thanks for posting this...I completely agree with Matt. By the way, for those who don't know, Matt is not only a Yolo County Supervisor, but one of the top political consultants around, and a Marine Recon reservist who served in Iraq.
Matt is dead on correct about this...we can either clean our own house or have it cleaned for us.
Art, Jeff, Matt -
Big difference - Doolittle has not been indicted. Doolittle has been faithful to his wife and he is straight.
That eliminates all the comparisons.
Corruption is the reason why Republicans lost congress, absolutely. John Doolittle is not corrupt - 3 1/2 years of a fruitless investigation...
Here's the deal - throw Doolittle overboard without giving him a chance to have due process and Democrats will waive the corruption card in front of everyone they can.
So here Republicans are, echoing the Corruption mantra of the ABD caucus... even though there is no evidence to Charge Doolittle with.
If JTD gets indicted, he retires, I eat crow and find someone else to support for Congress that is not named Egland.
Cleaning house means cleaning bad apples out, not innocent men like John Doolittle. You imply that Doolittle is corrupt when you write such statements about cleaning house - campaigns deal with perception and when Charlie Brown has to defend his record, he will lose.
I'm curious Aaron. How do you know he is innocent?
Also, even if he is innocent, do you have any problem with a politician who pays his wife almost a million dollars (maybe more if you go back a few years) in "commissions" on money she supposedly helps him raise?
Do you have a problem when the wife/fundraiser only has two clients, the congressman himself and Jack Abramoff?
Do you have nay problem with the Congressman's public leadership role against redistricting reform in 2005?
Or his bad votes on spending and pork?
When is it time for change? Or is it ever?
Thank you Matt Rexroad and Jeff Flint.

Thank you Matt Rexroad and Jeff Flint.
Jon Fleischman should be absolutely ashamed of himself, his longtime boss, and his blog.
Fleischman's coverage of Carona's indictmment and arraignment on the Flashreport have been nothing short of an abomination - and other political websites on the right and left have taken notice.
If there is any justice or decency left in our party, then Fleischman's days as a GOP operative should be numbered.
I know he is friends with a lot of people, but it is time to sever ties with him.
He brings us nothing but problems.
49er - talking about issues where you disagree with John Doolittle is a fair question to ask.
I would like to ask Ted Gaines the same sort of questions about his record as supervisor - supporting bonds, taxes, slow-growth votes and the like.
My mother is paid by our business as a consultant, she has only one client... Park Family Insurance. If we use your logic, then we have done something wrong as well.
Now - the final question 49er / outed / morescandaltoo etc... (i think those are all the names you've used)
When is it time for change? That will be the subject of an entire post. You see, Aaron Park answers questions - I don't run and hide.
Not to get off topic here, but if Aaron disagreed with Assemblyman Gaines' record as a County Supervisor during his one term there, then why did people like Aaron support him so much when he was trying to move up to the Statehouse?
If Supervisor Gaines voted for or supported tax increases and bonds, then why not support a real conservative for the office of State Assembly? After all, the Republicans in Sacramento are faced with many votes on new taxes and bonds. Shouldn't we want someone that has a proven record of opposing such things?
Aaron - I'm waiting for your specific responses to my questions.
As for Gaines' record, he will have to answer that for himself.
OK Aaron - I just checked the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association wesbite for their 2007 scorecard, which was published a few days ago.
2007
TED GAINES - 97.6 "A"
And the National Taxpayers Union, which rates Congress:
2007
JOHN DOOLITTLE 55% - "C+"
Now you tell me who the liberal is on tax and spending issues?
49er - please let us bloggers know who you really are... I know, but I'd rather hear from you.
Howard Jarvis records don't count histories of supporting parcel taxes and bonds as a supervisor, you knew that.
Art - of those runored to be running / or running for Assembly when Ted ran, he was the best choice.
I could go over that, but suffice to say Ted had three terms coming, seemed to be conservative enough... etc.
Since the ABD caucus are splitting hairs attempting to pick apart John Doolittle's record, then it is a fair retort to do the same to Gaines.
I prefer not to throw the baby out with the bathwater, however. And, in most cases I find the most Conservative candidate who is viable.
Those who support Gaines are attempting to get to the right of John or are attempting to drive a wedge in his base by pointing out the areas where he isn't perfect. Therefore, it is appropriate to remind people of where Gaines isn't perfect either.
Once that tactic is neutralized then one has to return to talking about Gaines behavior and lack of loyalty to another Republican whsoe support was instrumental to the political career Gaines has had thus far.
49er - until you reveal your identity the answers I have given are the best you are going to get.
It is fair for someone being accused of being a liberal to know the ID of their accuser and their agenda.
Tom Del Becarro deserved the same when it was done to him, too.
"I prefer not to throw the baby out with the bathwater..."
"...attempting to drive a wedge in his base by pointing out the areas where he isn't perfect."
WOW. Did Park just admit that John Doolittle is not perfect???
Neither is Rico Oller, Neither is Ted Gaines, Neither is Dave Cox, Neither is Keene, Aanestad, Tim Leslie or anyone else I have supported for office.
c'est la vie...
Got it. Thanks for the clarification. Based on your other posts, I was under the impression that Doolittle was the perfection exception. Now i understand that he's just a man and to err is human. Thanks.
mr parks couldn't answer a straight question if he had too.
He does tho, support those who it seems, he deems helpful to HIS cause, not the party's cause. Ergo, his blind ( and sudden shift ) support for mr Poizner. Whom, for months, parks attacked ceaselessly.
as for doolittle's guilt or innocence???
parks says he's innocent.......why, wouldn't that be an admission he DID something scandolous??????
So far, this blog ( as well as others ) is, according to SOME republicans I"ve spoken with, useless in it's endeavors, and only important to the, how was that described to me?? Oh yea, radical's and loony activists who preach here.
While I don't readily subscribe to such accusations, it shows a disconnect between HACKS and the realities of life.
I will give the HACKS one thing tho......most people don't give a rats A*** about this election untill they get things in the mail.
SOME people don't care about Egland, doolittle or anyone else, until the PRESIDENTIAL stuff is done.....bottom line is, it's not imortant until June08.
Wow..........isn't it wonderful????
Oh....on a small note?? aaron parks lied.
He never supported Rico Oller......said so in his own post/admission on a previous blog site. I believe, he stated " it was myself and my brother, who propelled the candidate opposite Rico to win..." or something like that.
So, parks.......your so called, RICO support......wow, you stabbed Rico Oller in the back, and yet you whine about what's happening to doolittle??
Takes gall.............
One hit wonderAaron Kerry-Parks. JD is just a man who happens to hold the office currently. Your misdirectionI mean loyalty to JD isclearly explained on your Egland hit website. Aaron Kerry-Parks voted for JD before Brown wins.
Youre a blog dodgerMr. Aaron Kerry-Parks. Youll get it right when JD doesI guess. Time to take it down. Ready to answer any questions?
Here is the problem with Doolittle, he hired his wife as a fundraiser with a 15% take. No matter how you slice it, THAT is corrupt. Regardless of whether it is legal, it is corrupt. It allows him to convert campaign contributions to family cash. Corrupt! Sorry, you can make excuses, but there are none. He should announce that he will not run again and step down.
