Sorry again for another late post...lots of business travel lately.
From the Associated Press:
Doolittle aides represented by House attorneys before grand jury
Two aides to GOP Rep. John Doolittle who appeared before a federal grand jury last week were accompanied by House attorneys rather than private lawyers, The Associated Press has learned.
A third aide did not use House counsel. The grand jury is investigating ties between Doolittle (R-Rocklin), his wife Julie, and jailed lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
Read the whole story, which is at the Tahoe Sierra Sun.
[Edit - Important paragraph for those who don't click thru.]
As Aaron and I have discussed, two of the staffers, including my old colleague Ron Rogers, are new to the Congressman's staff and their employment did not overlap with the alleged transgressions. This fact in further highlighted by the following paragraph in Erica's story:
The House Counsel generally only represents aides after the Justice Department has disclosed that they are only witnesses in a case and not subject to potential criminal scrutiny. Rogers and Blankenburg both are relatively recent arrivals to Doolittle's staff while Perkins has worked there for more than five years, including years when Doolittle was lobbied by Abramoff associates.

I think this is significant in that using "public defenders", which is the equivalent of House Lawyers is another obvious signal that John is proclaiming his innocence.
Second - they are subpoenaing staff that didn't even work at the time of the alleged offenses, their case is sputtering and they are scrambling to save face.
Time to put the other primary campaigns on watch.
As everyone should know, in these public corruption cases the charges often end up being related to a cover-up, which could explain why more recent staffers are being hauled before the Grand Jury.
