1. The Lunacy in Gov't Award: Measure Q Proponents SUE Placer CRA Over Ballot Argument

The second ever Bill Martin award for lunacy in government goes to the proponents of Measure Q.

As not reported in the Auburn Journal

They sued the Placer CRA - actually the Placer County Clerk's office because they accepted our ballot argument against the Colfax school district's school tax measure.

The Colfax argument in favor was replete with the same platitudes any school tax measure is full of - but the kicker is that the Placer CRA got mobilized to submit arguments against every local tax measure on the ballot.

The folks in the Colfax Unified School District wasted taxpayer money to SUE US over people who signed the argument against this tax. That's correct - we need you to tax yourselves to pay for more whatever, but we are going to use money we say we don't have to fight to get this tax passed.

After having a San Francisco law firm serve us with papers - apparently, the district decided against proceeding with their lawsuit.

A copy of the dismissal is posted here

The Colfax Unified School District has earned the second ever Bill Martin Award for...

Update - the Site is now live and the names on it are no surprise. The group behind the site - the Log Cabin Republicans, a group of Republicans who have refused to endorse President Bush and have yet to endorse McCain (who supports Prop 8) Like I said, single issue Republicans for Charlie Brown.

The website is not live yet - but the www.republicansagainst8.com website should be going live very soon.

It will be interesting to see who is behind this website - I think Joanne Neft is probably in the middle of this effort. Neft is the chair of the one-person group called Republicans for Brown.

I have not met any Moderate/Liberal Republicans that I know that support Gay Marriage.

Could it be the Log Cabin Republicans? This would be interesting, because polling data from Gay Republicans shows about a 50/50 split in support for Gay Marriage.

Republicans against Marriage are meeting tomorrow - it will be interesting to see who comes out tomorrow.

This is a developing situation... WWCBD?

Day 4 in the "Effigy Watch" - will Brown officially deny Anti-War / Anti-America activity or will he own up to it?

The latest problem team Brown has is that the letter is very clear - about residency and Per Diem. "POOF" there it goes...

Have you noticed that the Charlie Brown campaign has changed-up their tactics from calling McClintock's acceptance of Per-Diem payments a Felony/Crime to saying it is something he shouldn't be doing?

They also purport to understand Tom McClintock's finances so well that they can render a judgement as to weather he can afford to maintain two residences on just his salary. If McClintock was greedy, he'd work in the private sector... he'd make way more there!

Tunacharlie.gifSorry Charlie!

ENERGY. A new Quinnipiac poll out earlier (release 1205) indicates overwhelming public support for House Republicans' "all of the above" energy solutions. For starters, by 62 - 32 percent, Americans favor drilling for oil in currently protected offshore areas. While Republicans back offshore drilling 82 - 12 percent, Democrats back it 50 - 43 percent and independent voters say drill 60 - 36 percent. Additionally, the poll - which surveyed 1,547 likely voters nationwide, with a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points - finds:

56 - 35 percent in favor of building new nuclear plants;
51 - 42 percent back drilling in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge;
87 - 10 percent back government funds for renewable energy such as wind and solar power;
78 - 18 percent for mandating higher mileage standards for cars.

Also a must-read a lead editorial in the Wall Street Journal examines leading Democrats' recent shifts on offshore drilling: "It took a few months, and more than a few polls, but Democrats have concluded that they've lost the debate against...

Update - It is my DD214 the Brown campaign is asking for. Yet, they are asking for McClintock, Devereux or Feliz to release it. That would be a felony without my consent. The fact that Mr. Reed, a Brown supporter mentions the name Feliz indicates an level of campaign knowledge that is uncommon. This is day 3 in the Effigy Watch - I will continue to call on the Brown team to either confirm or deny Charlie's anti-war activities, then Mr. Reed can have a copy of my DD214.

The Brown team wants to play a game of DD214 comparison. They have implied that unless you are a LT. Col or equivalent that you can not criticize Charlie Brown.

This is a smokescreen for my real issue with Brown - I know Charlie to be a ferverent anti-war activist until late in the 2006 campaign cycle when he adandoned Steven Pearcy and Cindy Sheehan.

The Brown team is seeking to deflect criticism from Brown's anti-American and anti-War activism by pointing at my service record.

Sierra Club Supporter,

I think you know how important this election is for Placer County. So much of what we have struggled for over the years hangs in the balance. What happens in the race in Supervisorial District 5 will decide the direction of the county for years to come. Will the big influx of developer money pave the way for a Bruce Kranz victory over Jennifer Montgomery in November?   Will sprawl despoil the pristine beauty of Donner Summit?  Do we face a future of sprawl from Roseville to Auburn and beyond? Are we ready to have a Supervisor who truly cares and will represent both sides of the poorly gerrymandered Placer County?

It really depends on whether you and I are willing to step up.

We usually don't ask for money, but the future of the place where we live is at stake. While...

McClintock Challenges Brown to Take the No Tax Pledge!
McClintock Says "I Will Not Raise Taxes"

State Senator Tom McClintock's Democratic opponent, Charlie Brown, who has never been involved in state budget negotiations, last week distributed an email demanding passage of the budget now pending in the State Legislature.  McClintock delivered a response to Nevada County Republicans in a speech Saturday in Grass Valley.

"Sorry, Charlie, I will not raise taxes.  I will not raise taxes in California . I will not raise taxes in Washington D.C.   I will not raise taxes, period," McClintock said.  "And, that is something the people of this district can take to the bank."

While McClintock is a candidate in California 's Fourth Congressional District, he has not stopped fulfilling the duties of his day job.  McClintock is one of the 15 Senate Republicans holding the line in the debate over California 's state budget.  The current state budget proposal that Charlie Brown demands be passed includes more than $5 billion of new taxes that will boost California 's sales tax to nearly 10 percent.   ...

Blogger's Notes - Did Charlie stand with the effigy? This is what the voters in the 4th CD want to know. The absurdity of Charlie Brown's charges against Tom McClintock are punctuated by Charlie Brown's Anti-War Activism.

Late in the 2006 campaign, Charlie abandoned Cindy Sheehan and Steven Pearcy, dispatching his wife to try and talk them out of a Code Pink rally at the Capitol late summer 2006. Pearcy was quite angry that someone he saw as a friend would abandon his core principles in pursuit of political gain.

Could the "Promises Kept" be another attempt at political redemption for Charlie Brown? Think of it, it is a perfect storm - the Brownies can say I am a mean-spirited political attack dog and continue to avoid answering for Charlie's own contempt for our soldiers serving in Iraq.

Did Charlie Brown stand with the effigy? The silence from the Brown camp is deafening - it is time for Charlie to man up and either emphatically deny or proudly stand up with his anti-war allies that he spurned in late 2006.

Charlie's E-mail follows:

Jim Ruffalo's column over the weekend had a choice quote about Bruce Kranz' campaign - (it was posted in the roundup by Flint in its' entirety...) I decided to life the part about Kranz and re-post here, because it says it all.

Kranz is running real as opposed to Charlie Brown who is running from issues.

And over in the Fifth Supervisorial District, incumbent Bruce Kranz has his hands full against Jennifer Montgomery. That race is supposed to be non-partisan, but Kranz is getting help from the Republican faithful, while the old Rex Bloomfield Democratic Chowder and Marching Society has helped the challenger mount a real effort to win that seat.

According to one local noted GOPer, who asked for anonymity because he was unaware the quote was being recorded, said Kranz's biggest problem is "he's always off-balance because he keeps shooting his toes off." The utterance, oblique as it was, appears to be a reference to Kranz campaigning in a, well, unorthodox way. The rule of thumb here is that in election years, Tahoe-area highways are supposed to have only as many lanes as the local special interest groups want, large proposed developments...

Now that Todd Stenhouse has gone on the record with straight-out lies accusing blogs of spreading disinformation about "DebateGate". I have decided to look at some files in my email to get a better understanding as to why Charlie Brown wants a scripted, controlled style of Debating... and why he wants 1/2 the number of debates that Tom McClintock is suggesting.

The link takes you to a page on the Placer CRA Blogsite that has four clips hosted from AM 1240 KUSE, a station in Susanville, CA where Brown was interviewed regarding the Energy issue.

The four clips are Charlie's predictable answers to questions from the interviewer.

Listen for yourself and see if my comments about Charlie's inability to finish a sentence have merit or not. Also listen for the similarities between what he says and what Nancy Pelosi is saying - it is uncanny.

One could not help but think that if this 'personality' came out in debates - it would be a killer for Brown's campaign.

Major Update - The Auburn Journal made a major error in the story, they wrote that Stan Devereux, McClintock's spokesman canceled his scheduled meeting with Stenhouse on Thursday (the day of the Brown release) due to having to attend a memorial. The AJ was in error as the Memorial was on Wednesday. Gus Thomson, the reporter was told as such.

The significance is the appearance that Devereux canceled a meeting with Stenhouse on Thursday - so Stenhouse sent this press release out over "bad faith" by the McClintock team. At best, this is sloppy reporting, at worst, this is another chapter in the AJ Rampage 2008.

The Auburn Journal ran a story today about the whole war of "DebateGate" Press Releases.

The following excerpt pretty much says it all:

"Stenhouse said that initial talks were tainted when McClintock brought in a former Doolittle staff member in an attempt to manipulate the process rather than serve as facilitator. When false rumors began spreading on the Internet by McClintock supporters about the debate situation it was time to go public with Brown's position to quell distortions, he said."

What this basically means is that the glass-jawed...

At stake was a U.S. Senate seat--but also the definition of democracy and the future of the country

By Allen C. Guelzo

Posted August 21, 2008

On the dry, sun-baked afternoon of Aug. 21, 1858, Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas stepped onto a hastily constructed platform in the main square of the Illinois River town of Ottawa and began a series of seven one-on-one debates that bored a smoldering hole straight into the heart of American politics. Both men were candidates for the U.S. Senate, and both were veterans of the conventional give-and-take of politics. But these debates would carry Lincoln and Douglas far above the conventional. They would focus on an issue that promised a whirlwind of catastrophe for America , and they would end with two irreconcilable visions...

Brown Refuses to Respond to Bipartisan Appeal by McClintock

State Senator Tom McClintock Friday again called on his Democratic opponent Charlie Brown to join him in a bi-partisan call for Nancy Pelosi to bring Congress back from vacation for a straight up or down vote on off-shore drilling.

"Charlie Brown really opposes offshore drilling and can't muster the courage to tell the voters of the Fourth District his true position," McClintock said. "Brown is unable to explain his wildly inconsistent statements he has made on offshore drilling. The fact is Charlie Brown opposes offshore drilling."

Brown attended a fundraiser Wednesday night at an exclusive Beverly Hills fundraiser hosted by liberal Congressman Brad Sherman. Sherman is one of the most vocal opponents of offshore drilling.

We take a break from our regularly scheduled beatings of Charlie Brown to give you a state budget update.

A black pastor from Oak Park was testifying about the effects of AB32 on the poor. AB32 is the insane envrio bill about global warming that is going to increase the cost of electricity and fuel. In addition, it will add a regulatory burden... like the insane Sales Tax Increase, it will directly affect the poor way more than any other class of people.

This link is to Charlie Brown's fellow Democrat Wiggins telling this Black Reverend what she thinks of his pointing out the Eco-Nazi sponsored legistaion will do to the poor:

The Editor's culpability for the Auburn Journal's horrid record on reporting crime

Well chronicled on these blogs has been Deric Rothe's single-minded rampage against anything Republican in Placer County. Another pattern emerged as well with regard to the Auburn Journal's spotty record on reporting crime.

Why has the Auburn Journal convicted John Doolittle and Bruce Kranz when Doolittle has not been indicted and Michelle Ollar-Burris was not charged?

Why has the Auburn Journal looked the other way over the Kevin Ramirez shenanigans and seemingly ignored Emil John Vodonick?

Why did the Auburn Journal ignore Roger Yohe and the mess at WPUSD and never follow up on Bill Martin and potential abuses of the Grand Jury system?

All this and why did Deric Rothe write an editorial trashing three strikes?

The answers lie in Deric Rothe's past. It gives us a great insight into why he is soft on the Drug and the Crime Issue

26. Jennifer (Bloomfield)-Montgomery's Vision for Placer County: NIMBY

Well chronicled on these blogs are the all-star team that Jennifer Montgomery has accumulated. Montgomery's all-stars are salivating over the prospect of toppling Bruce Kranz.

The Auburn Journal will be there every step of the way, how? they report very little on Jennifer Montgomery. Why? Because when Jennifer Montgomery speaks, she loses votes.

Her All-Star team is the leading edge, but Montgomery in her own right has a few things to say about growth.

This article about Royal Gorge was the first shot. Montgomery says she is not opposed to development, but proceeds to go on a rampage over the next couple of years against Royal Gorge. In fact, the Auburn Journal was right there every step of the way trying to tar and feather Bruce Kranz with it.

Amazing considering this story from the Sierra Sun says nothing about Kranz or any other Republican being involved in the purchase of that Ski Resort.

Two years later - here is Montgomery showing her NIMBY side

The Royal Gorge project is about as green as they come, but here is Montgomery predicting the end of the...

29. Republicans are Skeptical of Democrat Drilling Proposal

Heck - weather there was drilling in Cuba in 2008, there is no argument that foreign countries will be drilling our oil in 2009 while we sit on our hands.

The Wall Street Journal Weighs in - keep in mind, Charlie Brown is running for Congress and his first vote will be to elect Pelosi speaker.

The point of this and the withering posts against Brown on the Oil Issue is that Brown has no effective defense for the fact that he wants to go to congress to serve Nancy Pelosi's agenda.

You have no doubt where Tom McClintock stands - with Charlie, you see anonymous commenters all over the board with excuses and deflections as to why America can't exploit it's own resources.

Now Pelosi is feeling that the Drilling Issue is hammering the Democrats into the ground, but the GOP is not fooled by her "drilling" plan.

WWCBD? Stand up to Pelosi or not? Tom McClintock Will - make no doubt.

30. AJ Rampage Update: The Whole Cuba Conondrum - Part One (There really was drilling going on!)

As Reported by the Auburn Journal who let the story run as the top story on Auburnjournal.com for four days - Tom McClintock had said that China was drilling off of the coast of Cuba.

As you would expect - the Auburn Journal wing of the Brown for Congress campaign ignored the absurdity of the fact that someone else could drill for our own oil. "We have chosen to lock up our resources and stand by to be spectators while these two (China and India) come in and benefit from things right in our own backyard."

If the Auburn Journal had followed up on the story - they would have found the following:

In 2006, Cuba started to lease it's off-shore territory for off-shore oil drilling some to China.

In 2006, Test drilling was conducted by a number of foreign oil companies on the leased off-shore territories.

The first actual producing oil wells are in the final stages of study before full development. You have to drill to study and develop.

But since the Auburn Journal has transfered their hatred of John Doolittle to Tom McClintock, nothing but dancing in the endzone over a...

31. AJ Rampage Update - Emil John Vodonick (Ethics....?)

In the spirit of the Auburn Journal's slanted coverage of everything Placer, the latest installment of the AJ Rampage update hits Sierra College Again.

Recently, the Auburn Journal declined to run a story on the blatant falsehoods in a Charlie Brown Campaign E-mail release, before that, it was ignoring all the withdrawn Doolittle Staff Subpoenas. We have known for years that the AJ was covering for former Sierra College President Kevin Ramirez.

The most recent installment of the Auburn Journal Rampage is their apparent amnesia over what should be a front-page story. Emil Jon Vodonick has some MAJOR ethical issues. As reported by Mike Spence earlier - Vodonick was placed on probation by the state bar association for ethics violations. (Stealing $53,000 from a client) Vodonick is one step away from losing his law license altogether.

It does not stop there, Vodonick has also been hit with a judgement in Orange County. Like  the case of the money he stole from his client, information this blogger has received indicates that Vodonick has not even attempted to pay back any of the money from that judgement either.

Since Cheryl Maki declared the endorsement of Save Sierra College for Vodonick...

Brown Launches Deceptive Attack on McClintock

Calls for McClintock to Vote for Massive Tax Hike

Roseville CA- August 8, 2008- Charlie Brown once again demonstrated his ignorance of the state's budgetary process-and the tax-fighting nature of the District he seeks to represent in Congress- when he sent a misleading email to "4th District" residents. In that email he said that Tom McClintock and other Republicans "aren't doing their jobs" because they have opposed a massive, Democrat-inspired tax scheme. In fact, Republican legislators are working night and day to fight this raid on our pocketbooks.

If the GOP legislators had caved last month, as Charlie Brown wished, the new taxes would have totaled some $8.2 billion. By fighting the proposed plan, the Democrats' latest rejected budget deal would have cost taxpayers $6.6 billion. So those "non-working Republicans" have already saved taxpayers $1.6 billion and are fighting on.

Brown also stated that legislators are getting paid for "not doing their jobs; the truth:

1.)    Senators Dave Cox, Sam Aanestad (who represent Placer County) and Senator Tom McClintock, our nominee for the 4th CD are NOT getting paid currently.
2.)    Charlie Brown defines "doing your job" as completing...

Still waiting for a positive story out of the AJ on McClintock btw... Some day I will hit the lottery, too.

On the heels of not following up on Mike Holmes public challenge of Charlie Brown's service record... the Auburn Journal has decided to pick up a story about the Chinese Drilling off of Cuba's coastline.

http://www.auburnjournal.com/detail/90944.html

Now, was there ever a mention of Charlie's Energy Plan being a carbon copy of Pelosi's?

Nope, just this... "Noting that McClintock is an out-of-district resident whose senatorial seat is in Southern California, Stenhouse added that if he's so focused on Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco, he should run against her in that district."

The article fails to mention that Nancy Pelosi is blocking any votes on an energy plan and that McClintock called on Charlie Brown to drop partisan politics and to join him in publicly demanding Pelosi allow votes on the energy bills.

Stenhouse's quotes are duplicitous as you can not really support Oil Refineries or Nuke Plants if you are going to allow your perspective boss to block votes on them.

While China has leases on Oil rights...

37. Charlie Brown's Top Ten Reasons Why We Can't Drill

Folks - there has been a raging debate for two weeks on local Placer Blogs. Charlie Brown continues to duck the questions of why his energy plan was hailed by Calitics (a lefty blog) as being a carbon copy of Pelosi's and weather or not he would stand up and tell Pelosi no.

We know that Charlie Brown left the Fire Summit early as the Sierra Club showed up to disrupt the attempts to plan the thinning and clearing of forests to stem wildfires. Is this what Charlie Brown Would do?

10. We can't drill because Oil dropped from $147 a barrel to $111 today. That's correct - Brown's team is saying that the Republican efforts to bring Gas prices to the forefront of America's conscience are a political stunt and prices are falling anyway. In 2004, a gallon of gas was less than $2. Oil was $60 a barrel - now $111 a barrel is good enough not to drill over.

9. We can't drill because we should release Oil from the strategic reserve. This talking point has been parroted ad nauseum by Pelosi and Brown. the truth is that we DID release Oil from the reserve...

Sorry Charlie - time to stop whining about McClintock being from SoCal. You've just been drilled! Don't you think it is kind of absurd to whine about someone from SoCal getting money from SoCal when...

This one is a bit out of my price range, but I did want to let all Southern California readers know that Congressman Brad Sherman is hosting a reception for Charlie Brown on Wednesday, August 20th, at 7pm in Beverly Hills.  Presuming Charlie is present, of course, it would be a good opportunity for anyone who hasn't gotten the pleasure of meeting him in person to finally do so (and throw in some money to the campaign, for those who can afford it!).

$2300 Charlie's Angel Host
$500 Co-Host
$150 General Admission

Who is Brad Sherman? Sherman is a Liberal Democrat from California's 27th Congressional District. So Much for Charlie Brown's calls for Post-Partisanship. So Much for Charlie the Moderate..

Hat Tip to Calitics for posting about this.

Speech to "Mainstream America" Barbecue
Senator Tom McClintock
Chico, California
August 16, 2008

Thank you all for being here today; thank you for your hard work on behalf of our candidates and on behalf of our cause.

A funny thing is happening on the way to the Obama coronation. Americans are waking up and asking some basic questions, like:

Does anyone seriously believe our health care is going to be improved by handing it over to the same people who run the DMV and the Post Office?

Does anyone seriously believe that a House leadership that places William Jefferson on the Homeland Security Committee after he was caught with $90,000 in bribe money in his freezer can be trusted with the security of our nation?

Does anyone seriously believe that socialism will work any better in America than it did in the Soviet Union?

And when they began asking those questions, the political tide began to turn in our favor.  Just since the energy debate began in Washington last month, the Rasmussen poll has tracked a FIVE POINT shift toward Congressional Republicans.

You need look no farther than the corner gas...

Blogger's Note - Kind of like the Preamble to the Constitution - this post is a great response to the Charlie Brown / Nancy Pelosi top ten reasons not to drill list.

This morning, Pelosi announced that "Senator Barack Obama and congressional Democrats support a comprehensive energy plan" that "will consider opening portions of the Outer Continental Shelf for drilling."  During the Democrats' weekly radio address, she implied that this plan would be considered in the House after Democrats return from their vacation.

Pelosi did not announce what offshore areas would be considered for drilling. However, if her own record is any indication, she will continue to obstruct any significant drilling proposals. For months, Pelosi and House Democrats have blocked votes to allow more drilling. As recently as two days ago, Pelosi "firmly rejected the idea of a House vote solely on the issue of offshore oil drilling." Furthermore, there are already at least four different House bills to allow more drilling, and Democrats have repeatedly voted to prevent them from being debated and voted on.

Congressional Democrats have established a strong record of opposing drilling and "all of the above"...
