Matt Cunningham posted a story earlier about the OCGOP Central Committee meeting tonight with Mike McGill challenging 1st Vice Chairman Fred Whitaker and Zonya Townsend challenging Assistant Treasurer Anna Bryson.
We should all welcome the civil debate that is sure to follow as it leads to a reinvigoration of our membership and the process as a whole. But will we proceed according to our by-laws?
Our by-laws state that "The Parliamentary authority for the Central Committee shall be Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised; 1. This authority shall determine any question not covered in these By-Laws for procedures or conduct at meetings of the Central Committee and/or any of its committees;
Robert's Rules of Order states on page 398 that "vote by ballot can be ordered by a majority vote, which may be desirable in any case where it is believed that members may thereby be more likely to vote their true sentiments" and on page 556 goes on to state that "election by ballot should usually be prescribed in the section pertaining to elections and terms of office"
We vote by ballot at each and every election to ensure the integrity of our vote and this evenings OCGOP meeting and all future meetings should use the same method.
