ORANGE COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY HONORS ASSEMBLYMAN VAN TRAN FOR MUCH-NEEDED TRAFFIC RELIEF LEGISLATION
With a minimum of cost to taxpayers, Tran's AB 2906 gives drivers continual access to carpool lanes, provides the room necessary to add an extra lane on SR-55, improves traffic flow and reduces commute times.
(ORANGE) - The Orange County Transportation Authority today recognized Assemblyman Van Tran for his authorship of AB 2906, "the Orange County Traffic Relief Act of 2008." The legislation was signed into law by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on June 9, 2008.
"Besides getting parents home sooner to their families and businesses distributing their goods more efficiently, it's a question of saving lives," said Assemblyman Van Tran.
AB 2906 provide the room necessary to add an extra lane on SR-55, improving traffic flow and reduce commute times with a minimum of cost to taxpayers. It will also give drivers continual access to carpool lanes.
A 2007 UC Berkeley study found that continual access car pool lanes reduce mishaps stateway by 8 percent. This also reduces the percentage of injury collisions to 27 percent from 34 percent of all crashes.
"Everybody knows at least one person who lost his or her life in a car accident," continued Assemblyman Tran. "One third of those deaths could have been prevented by building safer roads and highways. We don't know how to cure cancer yet, but we do know how to build better, safer roads. I am honored to recive this award from OCTA for my small role in making our roads safer, but much work remains."
Assemblyman Tran proudly serves the people of the 68th Assembly District, which includes Costa Mesa, Garden Grove, Westminster, Fountain Valley, Anaheim, Stanton, and Newport Beach.
