Westminster Council: "Thanks, but No Thanks."

Those were the exact words of Councilman Frank Fry last night during the much anticipated discussion over what to do with the pedestrian bridge proposed by Janet Nguyen. The Westminster City Council, on a 4-0 decision, voted to take no action on the County of Orange's request to construct a $2.5 million bridge across Bolsa Avenue. The action effectively killed the measure.
Red County has previously covered this issue here and here.
Simply put, this pedestrian bridge is not only pure pork, but it is also bad public policy concocted up for the June Supervisorial Election. The proposal is also ill prepared as there was never any traffic study, feasibility study, ADA compliance study, nor a cost-effective analysis that support the construction of this bridge. As a matter of fact, no one seems to know where the bridge will be located except for that it will be somewhere on Bolsa, and between Magnolia Ave. and Bushard Street.
There were several memorable moments last night as people in the audience take their turns in addressing the City Council.
First it was Alin Hamade (pictured left), the only City Council candidate who is in favor of the bridge. Hamade proposed that small businesses in the area pay for the maintenance cost and that Westminster should take bridge, otherwise Janet Nguyen will give the money to either Garden Grove or Santa Ana. Councilman Kermit Marsh wanted to clarify what Alin Hamade was refering to when he said, "having businesses pay for the maintenance..." - some sort of assessment district to raise taxes on small business owners in Little Saigon?
Right...really bright...
Second was a person by the name of Vu Chung (pictured right). I'm not sure what city he lives in but he's a reporter for VNCR, a Vietnamese language radio station.
Most community observers will agree that VNCR is biased in favor of Janet Nguyen and her causes.
In fact, VNCR, under the guise of "news reporting", allowed Janet's chief of staff Andrew Do on their station many times this past week to spit his venom against anyone who they perceived as an opponent of the bridge. However, last night VNCR took its biased to another level by letting their reporter Vu Chung speak in support of the bridge.
Here's a message for VNCR: People know that your station is biased and your reporters have no journalistic integrity, but at least try to publicly behave like an objective news organization rather than a propaganda tool for Janet Nguyen.
The Westminster City Council did the right thing last night and turned down a pork barrel item that could have wasted millions of taxpayers money. Kudos to Mayor Margie Rice, Council Members Frank Fry, Andy Quach, and Kermit Marsh.

Thanks for the report, Tomahawk.
This should serve as a big lesson for her highness queen Janet...so she can get down from her high horse.
Bad public policy, no coalition building to bring together the stakeholders, coupled with her "my way or the highway" attitude resulted in last night's rejection.
It's quite rare for a public official to bring home $2.5M in pork, then get outright rejected - by four Republican colleagues, no less!!! That's quite a slap in the face embarrassment.
Tomahawk - you attacking Hamade, and even posting his picture is a breach of ethics on your part and you well know what I am talking about. Then accusing others of being a propaganda tool for Janet Nguyen while you have been the most outspoken opponent of her is like the pot calling the kettle black.
As a contributor/author to this blog that would be like a candidate running for a city office making another candidate look bad by writing about them negatively. That would be unethical.
YOu said "People know that your station is biased and your reporters have no journalistic integrity, but at least try to publicly behave like an objective news organization rather than a propaganda tool for Janet Nguyen."
To you, I say, read the above and apply it to yourself.
Watcher,
What gives you the idea that this blog is an "objective news organization."
A blogger is not a reporter so i'm not sure why you are attempting to hold the former in the same standard as the latter.
As for "attacking" Alin Hamade, I thought that was a pretty tame post by Tomahawk because i've seen worst from him.
Alin Hamade is literally a used-car sales man. He's is only supporting this bridge because he needs the Vietnamese votes, but too bad for him, even the person who appointed him to the Traffic Commission opposes the bridge.
Alin Hamade shot himself in the foot by being stupid. He really did not need any help from Hawk. Cut him some slack.
Vu Chung, the so-called "reporter" from VNCR is a big joke. Can't speak English at the City Council hearing. What kind of a journalist is this guy? He's no moderate nor fair. I wonder how much money he gets from Nick Le Cong to bark his trash on the radio, VNCR.
