VIDEO: JFK on Taxes
By Matthew Cunningham | 10/25/08 | 08:43 PM EDT | 0 Comments
There was a day when Democrats didn't think tax increases were the path to economic growth. President John F. Kennedy proposed across-the-board income tax rate cuts in order to spur economic growth. "A rising tide lifts all boats," as he put it -- although a statement like that would be derided by Obama and his acolytes as "trickle down" economics.
Here's Kennedy on his proposed tax cut, as a reminder to Democrats that they weren't always wrong on taxes:
Aagh! Tax cuts for the rich!
Refreshing, huh? Using taxes as a tool for economic growth, rather than a club to punish Americans who have been successful. Making the economic pie bigger, rather than using government to carve it up differently. Imagine that!
