La Habra Police Union Endorses Carillo For Judge

This just came over the transom from the Debra Carrillo for Judge campaign:
Debra Carrillo Endorsed By La Habra Police AssociationThat's a pretty harsh -- and very unfair -- slam at Kermit Marsh, and reflects poorly on Carrillo.
The La Habra Police Association has announced its endorsement of Deputy District Attorney Debra Carrillo for Orange County Superior Court Judge.
"The La Habra Police Association is a proud supporter of Debra Carrillo's campaign for Orange County Judge," stated Association President Jim Tigner.
"Law Enforcement across Orange County is continuing to unite behind my candidacy," declared Carrillo, who has received the support of the Association of Orange County Deputy District Attorneys; the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs; and Police Officers from the cities of Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, La Habra, Santa Ana and Seal Beach.
"Cops and Prosecutors support Debra Carrillo because they want a Judge with real crime fighting and criminal law experience--not an office-hopping politician who's searching for his latest job," said Carrillo campaign consultant Chris Jones.

As a resident of Westminster, I really resent the comment "...not an office hopping politician searching for his latest job" about Kermit Marsh.
Mr. Marsh is NOT an "office hopping politician searching for his latest job" That is a very UNDESERVED SLAM.
Mr. Marsh has a successful law practice and has served "well and faithfully" as a City Council member in Westminster for a decade. He was a City Councilman for 6 years before he even attempted to run for anything else.
Talking about "job hopping" - Carrillo spent her career defending criminals until just a couple of years ago before switching to the D.A.'s office, and is now running for Judge, but I guess the consultant, Chris Jones, doesn't consider that as "job hopping".
In the June Primary election, Mr. Marsh ran for 2 separate offices--Republican Central Committee and Judge. If had been elected Judge, then he couldn't have legally served on the Central Committee--so I'm not really sure what his point was in running for both offices--except perhaps a lack of confidence in his ability to win a judicial election.
Then during the summer, Mr. Marsh took out candidacy papers to run for re-election to the Westminster City Council while he was simultaneously facing a judicial run-off election. He withdrew his City Council candidacy only when it was clear he would face heavy political opposition at home for seeking two different offices at the same time.
In June of 2004, Mr. Marsh ran for County Supervisor. Then in November of 2004 he ran again for City Council.
This is clearly the behavior of "an office-hopping politician in search of his latest job."
Vivian, it seems like Chris Jones has a point.
Mr. Jones did not address the "job hopping" of Ms. Carrillo.
Mr. Marsh was in a PRIMARY election which is supposed to determine the final candidates who run for office in November. There was a pretty wide field I believe. He has been on the Central Committee for years, so why wouldn't he run for both? The primary was a run-off.
Believe me, NO ONE would have objected to him running for City Council again in Westminster...he always gains the highest number of votes when he runs in Westminster. It was a decision he chose to make to free up the Westminster seat for other candidates as his intent is to win the Judge seat. I cannot comment as to why he took out papers for both initially, and then didn't file them for Westminster, but personally, for selfish reasons, I would have loved to keep him in Westminster. But I think our county and our country would gain a great Judge should he be elected.
Marsh has been a good councilman and we think he is the bset candidate to be our next judge.
`
Matt,
My comment was neither harsh nor unfair--it was the truth. Mr. Marsh's multiple candidacies highlighted in the above posting are completely accurate. He's a politician in search of an office.
By contrast, Debra Carrillo has dedicated her life to public safety as a former Police Officer and current Deputy District Attorney. She has earned the virtually UNANIMOUS support of Orange County Law Enforcement and Orange County Superior Court Judges. This overwelming support is testimony to her clear superiority as a judicial candidate.
Matt,
Debra Carrillo is committed to serving the citizens of Orange County as a Judge.
If Kermit Marsh was committed to being a judge, why did he run for Republican Central Committee in June? Judicial ethics prohibit judges from serving in partisan capacities.
If Marsh was committed to being a judge, then why did he take out papers to run simultaneously in November for re-election to the Westminster city council? Judges aren't allowed to hold other public offices.
Perhaps you could enlighten your readers with the answers to these questions and explain to us how he is NOT a politician in search of a job?
She has earned the virtually UNANIMOUS support of Orange County Law Enforcement and Orange County Superior Court Judges. This overwelming support is testimony to her clear superiority as a judicial candidate.
Yup...That's how I want to pick my judges - It makes sense to base our decision on who is qualified to be a judge based on the endorsement of a public employee union.
The sign that T Rack has dual endorsed is testimony that neither candidate has "clear superiority."
So do we go with the liberal Democrat backed by unions or the conservative Republican. To most readers of this blog, I think the choice is obviously Kermit.
Chris, I commend your loyalty and dedication to your clients. It's an admirable quality in a political consultant. But you're stretching a bit here.
On another note, is Jim Rogan less qualified to be a judge because he is an "office shopping politician." He was a judge. Ran for Assembly. Ran for Congress. Did some work in the patent office. And now, he is i a judge again. Does that make him less or more qualified. The answer is more. So, even if Kermit is an "office shopping politician" - and that is a big "even if" - his "
office shopping" isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Chris, we look at track records..a good indicator for any candidate seeking public office and we support Marsh .
Captain,
I knew Jim Rogan very well when he served in the State Assembly. Unlike Marsh, Jim Rogan never ran for multiple offices at the same time.
I'm also sick of the attitude expressed by you that attacks police officers, deputy sheriffs and deputy district attorneys--all of who support Debra Carrillo--as "public employee unions". Prosecutors and law enforcement officers tend to be heavily Republican. It is political stupidity of the highest order to dismiss the value of their support.
Wayne Quint sure is the poster child for Republicanism here in Orange County isn't he.
Sarcasm aside, Quint and the his association have more in common with SEIU than they do with Republican principles. Just like any other union, rank and file may be more Republican leaning but the leadership is not.
Chris you still haven't responded to my earlier question about Ms. Carrillo's job hopping from criminal defense to the DA's office and now running for Judge...?????? any comments?
And, could you please tell her to not put her pink campaign signs in the PUBLIC Medians? The re-appear nearly daily, does she have endless funds to spend on these hot pink signs? They are removed from public medians pursuant to city regulations....but she may not be aware of our City's regulations.
Vivian,
I don't waste my time responding to idiotic questions.
Captain,
Your comments are also too insipid for further response.
Nice response Chris. Wonder what kind of business your consulting firm would be getting from future candidates. Not much I'm betting with an attitude like that.
Chris Jones has still long ways to go in this political arena. Your argument doesn't hold water here.
Just vote for better candidate.... Marsh!
Chris has to work for Dems. It will be a long time before he gets more Republican work in OC after he sent out that hit piece against Daucher in her 2006 campaign against Correa.
Looking at the track record, here are the facts:
1) FACT: Debra Carrillo has many years of crime fighting experience as a Prosecutor and former Police Officer. Kermit Marsh has ZERO criminal law experience.
2) FACT: Debra Carrillo is committed to serving as a Superior Court Judge. Marsh has taken out papers to run for 3 separate offices this year alone.
3) FACT: As documented previously on this blog, Mr. Marsh has repeatedly FAILED to file campaign reports. He REFUSES to comply with the law. This is NOT an admmirable quality for somene seeking a judicial position.
4) FACT: Debra Carrillo is endorsed by virtually every crime victim and law enforcement organization in Orange County.
5) CONCLUSION: Debra Carrillo will be elected Judge on November 4th.
All these other silly comments from anonymous bloggers are just so much hot air.
Chris Jones: feel very lucky that I am too professional to engage in an ad homien attack, although every fiber of my being wants to.
Fact: Debra Carrillo is a liberal.
Fact: Debra Carrillo spent her career defending criminals until a
most timely shift to the DA's office just TWO SHORT
YEARS before running for JUDGE.
FACT: Kermit Marsh has been elected successfully on more than one
occasion.
FACT: Kermit Marsh has had a successful private law practice and
has not been a Public Employee during his entire career,
unless you count his service as a City Councilman and his
Service on the many boards and commissions upon which he
serves without compensation,all PART TIME
FACT: Kermit Marsh comes from the real world.
FACT: Kermit Marsh has been serving the people for years. He has
been protecting the citizenry of Westminster at a different
level. The Police Department in the City of Westminster has a good and direct relationship with the City Council.
FACT: Kermit Marsh has no experience making deals for criminals
to get them lighter sentences.
FACT: Kermit Marsh has no experience working with criminals to get
the best deal for them.
FACT: Carrillo has a lot of experience working with criminals to
get the lightest sentence and the best deals for them, she's
had years of experience defending criminals.
FACT: Carrillo just switched to the white hat DA's office a couple
of years before running for judge. The fact that she was
in law enforcement doesn't convince everyone that she will
be a good judge.
So don't talk about other bloggers "hot air" you have plenty of your own.
Why wouldn't Marsh just get an appointment from Arnold? These seats open up on a fairly regular basis and Marsh has been a good Republican soldier and seems qualified.
I don't think he has sought that avenue.
