Obamafatuation Blinding Media To Ayers Story
By Matthew Cunningham | 10/06/08 | 05:15 PM EDT | 0 Comments
I'm a little aghast at how blasé the mainstream media is regarding Barack Obama and Bill Ayers.
Tom Brokaw refers to the unrepentant terror bomber as now being a "school reformer" -- although I was unaware wasting tens of millions on politically indoctrinating youngsters qualified as "school reform." I guess doing it "for the children!" goes a long way to wash away trying to blow people up.
Our hometown paper's political blog Total Buzz is headlined "Palin's Effort To Link Obama To A Former Terrorist."
Attempt to link? What attempt is needed? That headline sounds like Sarah Palin is trying to hang a rap on Obama. Obama is linked to Ayers, and he done so willingly and knowingly.
Sure, Obama now acts as though he barely knows Bill Ayers -- which is a familiar pattern with Obama whenever embarrassing or controversial details about an adviser, mentor or colleague emerge. "Bill Who?"
Stanley Kurtz, overcame stonewalling by the University of Illinois at Chicago (almost certainly orchestrated by the Obama camp) to obtain the papers of the $60 million Chicago Annenberg Challenge that Obama ran with Ayers. This boondoggle, by the way, is about the closest Obama has ever come to executive experience. Comforting thought.
Kurtz lays the link -- if that word even suffices -- out in black and white here, here and here.
The general media attitude seems to be that Ayers time with the Weather Underground was extreme high-spiritedness. It was the Sixties, after all! College students would be college students!
If Ayers were sorry for his actions and condemned them, that might be one thing.
But he has not. Ayers remains unrepentant to this day.
Now, Barack Obama has been careful to condemn Ayer's terrorist past, but how does that excuse working with an unrepentant terrorist? Collaborating with him on a politically radical education project? Having a campaign kick-off fundraiser in his home?
Come one. The MSM wouldn't be so indulgent and incurious if the respective party affiliations of ideologies of those involved were on the right of the spectrum.
What is the difference, after all, between Bill Ayers and Timoth McVeigh? The only practical difference is McVeigh was a much more accomplished bomb maker and terrorist than Ayers, and was much ore successful in killing innocent people to make a political statement.
But in principle, there is no difference. If Ayers had possessed McVeigh's knowledge of explosives and how to use them, can there be any doubt the Weathermen would have cut a much wider swath of death and destruction?
So Bill Ayers can thank his comparative bomb-making inadequacy for the fact that he's living large in the fashionable quarters of Chicago society, while his mirror image Tim McVeigh got the death penalty.
Wake up, MSM! We have a man poised for the Presidency who willingly associated himself with a man he knew to have been a terrorist, and an unrepentant one at that. That Ayers' terror bombings happened when Obama was 8 years old is absurdly irrelevant. The grown-up Obama chose to work with Ayers -- this is not some smear Sarah Palin is trying to "link" to The One. Shake off the Obamafatuation for a little while, MSM, and do your jobs.
