Governor Vetoes "Harvey Milk Day" Bill

My attitude toward Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is the same as toward a broken clock: you can count on it being right twice. Although at this point, I have more confidence in the reliability of the broken clock than the Governor.
I posted on Monday about AB 2567 (Mark Leno), which would proclaim May 22 to be "Harvey Milk Day" and encourage public schools to set aside time in the school day for commemorations, etc. of Harvey Milk.
If the trustees of San Francisco public schools want to waste time and tax dollars on a day of gay political propagandizing, then go ahead. But please don't impose it on the rest of us in the real world.
I'll stop here and note that "moderate" Sen. Lou Correa voted for AB 2567. I'm sure his constituents with children in crummy SAUSD schools will be glad to know Lou's educational priorities are in the right place.
Thankfully, the broken clock was right yesterday when AB 2567 came up for approval or veto, and the governor vetoed it. I don't see a veto message, which is just as well. In trying to discern a consistent philosophical pattern to Gov. Schwarzenegger's singing or vetoing of legislation, I might as well read chicken entrails.

"To the Members of the California State Assembly:
I am returning Assembly Bill 2567 without my signature.
I respect the author’s intent to designate May 22nd as "Harvey Milk Day" and a day of special significance for California public schools and educational institutions to honor Harvey Milk as an important community leader and public official in the city and county of San Francisco. However, I believe his contributions should continue to be recognized at the local level by those who were most impacted by his contributions.
For this reason, I am unable to sign this bill.
Sincerely,
Arnold Schwarzenegger"
How about Chocolate Milk Day?
The Governator got this one exactly right. Let the locals celebrate Mr. Milk, but his impact does not rise to the level of statewide recognition.
Lou must have traded a vote for this one.
Yeah..Thank you Jesus for your protection over our public schooled kids. Had this passed the schools would have been forced to start teaching homosexual tolerance..Praise GOD!!!!!!!!
