Vote Yes on 6 and 9 Because Barbara Lee Says No to 6 and 9

The No on 6 & 9 people have announced that Propositions 6 and 9 are opposed by crazy Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-Oakland), whose claim to fame is her vote against the war in Afghanistan. She was the only person in the US Congress to vote against attacking Afghanistan, whose Taliban regime was openly harboring Osama Bin Laden! Even the openly, self-described socialist Bernie Sanders from Vermont voted for the authorization of the use of force in Afghanistan. Most foreign countries offered assistance in Afghanistan - including the use of their troops.
This nutcase's opposition to Proposition 9: Marsy's Law was just announced. Marsy's Law is a victims' rights measure sponsored by OC's own Todd Spitzer. We should definitely support the Spitzer Initiative. For some bizarre reason, they also re-announced Lee's opposition to Proposition 6: the Safe Neighborhoods Act, sponsored by Senator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley). The Safe Neighborhoods Act is a measure designed to curb gang crime. The No campaign had originally announced her opposition to the Runner Initiative back in May. I guess they're just reminding us that we should support Proposition 6.
The announcement was emailed to me this morning:
The No on Props. 6 & 9 campaign (penalties/gangs and victims' rights, respectively) reports US Rep. Barbara Lee and Americans for Democratic Action have announced their opposition to the measures. Contact: Lindsay Shoemaker 916 443 7817.

Respectfully, Chris, shouldn't we oppose Prop 6 on the grounds that it is ballot box budgeting? Programmed spending vis a vis ballot box budgeting has helped put California into its current budget mess.
Sure, Prop 6 does more than that. But, are the evils of ballot box budgeting saved by good intentions and other measure in Prop 6?
And the argument that some left wing nut job opposes Prop 6 (whatever their reasoning) isn't very persuasive, given the adage, "Even a stopped clock is right twice a day."
I can't speak to the ballot box budgeting argument (I'll leave that to Chris), but I will note that Chris has posted on Proposition 6 several times before, so his argument about the "left wing nut job" is simply a supplement to his previous arguments.
Go ahead and vote yes on 6 just to oppose Barbara Lee, if you think that's a good reason for voting one way or the other. How about instead you look at the actual issue. This prop will take billions from the state budget to fund massive prison expansions during a time of historic budget deficits. We simply cannot afford this, nor do we need more prisons in our backyards.
As for prop 9, this again would mandate huge increases in prison spending. This prop is also completely unnecessary due to the fact that California's legislation regarding victims' rights is already among the nation's strongest.
Sorry, no on 6 and 9 is the way to go..
