Obama backs LAX service workers
The El Toro Info Site picked up this from the Daily Breeze while surfing for commercial airport news.
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama announced his support Thursday for airline service workers at Los Angeles International Airport -- six days after those [100] employees put down their picket signs and returned to work.
"Today, I stand with the airline service workers on strike at Los Angeles International Airport. The demands they're fighting for aren't unreasonable -- access to health care, adequate training, proper equipment, wages that can support a family -- that's what America's workers deserve," the senator said in a statement.
"Their efforts send a strong signal that it's not good for workers, passengers or the industry when business fails to live up to its end of the bargain," he said.
The website editor comments: This sounds more like a community activist speaking than a President of the United States. Presidents generally get involved only when the national interest is at stake.
Sorry to disagree with you, Jubal, but the more I think about it, the image of a white-haired, grumpy old man standing up there by himself yelling “stand up and fight” over and over again, is not going to win us any votes.
Yes, we are all in love with the fabulous Governor Sarah Palin (can we trade Arnold for her?). Palin is
a knock-out, a grand slam, etc. But at the end of the day, we are still stuck with John "What First Amendment" McCain as our standard-bearer. God help us.
That was one of the weakest acceptance speeches I've ever heard. I understand it played well in front of a partisan crowd. That's to be expected. I'd give him a C- on content and a D- for delivery. The very last part where he kept asking us to fight came off sounding totally contrived. He needs to be able to read off a tel-promter better. The crowd was cheering him and he didn't pause at all to soak it all in. Overall a very disappointing effort.
Len - Shouldn't Obama be saying "it's not good for anyone when business fails?" If the airlines were doing well, so would be the workers. Obama would rather see this Country fail then give up his concessions either.
McCain = Regonomics. We are the most philanthropic country in the World and we can continue to be under the successful Free-Enterprise leadership of McCain!
