"Harvey Milk Day?" You Gotta Be Kidding!

But I'm not, because this is California state government, where no topic is too extraneous, bizarre or trivial to merit legislation and subsequent indoctrination into captive public school student audiences.
The Legislature passed AB 2567, which requires the governorr to, every year, proclaim May 22 to be "Harvey Milk Day":
Will these commemorations include discussion of priceless Harvey Milk quotes like this one:
There are only three other officially designated "special significance" days: John Muir Day (April 21), California Poppy Day (April 6) and the Day of the Teacher (second Wednesday in May).
Setting aside another one for a controversial politician who advocated for a lifestyle and a political agenda that was controversial then and remains then and remains so today is political indoctrination, pure and simple.
The famously moderate Sen. Lou Correa voted for it. Genius! The Santa Ana Unified School District is doing such a brilliant job of education the students within its grip that they can afford to set aside an time for commemorations and discussions about an assassinated San Francisco supervisor because he was gay? Your tax dollars at work.
The Governor, ever the weathervane, has set up a call-in line to gauge public sentiment on this AB 2567: (916) 445-2841. Take a minute to call and ask the Governor to toss this bill into the veto bin where it belongs.

"...and would designate that date as having special significance in public schools and educational institutions and would encourage those entities to conduct suitable commemorative exercises on that date."Talk about fiddling while Rome burns. The state government is in the grips of ongoing fiscal meltdown, our public school system is a case study in bureacuracy- and union-driven mediocracy -- but let's be sure to set aside a day to focus the childrens' attention of an assassinated local elected official because he was a homosexual.
Will these commemorations include discussion of priceless Harvey Milk quotes like this one:
"More people have been slaughtered in the name of religion than for any other single reason. That, my friends, that is true perversion."Let's leave aside, for the moment, the questionable wisdom of dedicating an entire day of commemoration to a minor figure of interest to a small fraction of Americans, even as our students are awash in a sea of histroical ignorance.

I have just two words - SCHOOL CHOICE!
What about a "Mayor George Moscone Day"? Dan White killed him, too.
Oh I forgot -- Moscone wasn't gay, so there's no need to remember him.
Ever since the days of the infamous "Gender Issue" in Westminster when school board members Judy Ahrens, Blossie Marquez and Helena Rutkowski stood against the implementation and intimidation of the State School Superintendent Jack O'Connell on the implementation of a "non discrimination" policy - things like this have been every increasing in our school districts.
The non discrimination policy gave "students who thought they might be gay and felt discriminated against" a mechanism to file a complaint which would have to be heard by a panel. I attended an April 1 meeting on this firestorm issue at Stacey School. There were over 900 people there that night.
The GLBT (an alliance of Gay, Lesbian, BiSexual and Transgender) and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance had literally bussed in their members from Los Angeles and other counties to where the auditorium was nearly filled with them. The unions had also filled the room with their ranks. A flyer we saw told them to be there or their jobs could be in jeopardy because the state would take money from our schools and leave them destitute if this wasn't implemented.
When I got up to speak I just wanted to know how many parents were actually in the room. It was a small group that stood up, in this sea of 900 people who had no children in our schools and didn't even live in the area. There were parents left standing outside that couldn't even get in the room.
What was most interesting was the first three rows of the more "decorated" of the GLBT's and GLA's - with "interesting" piercings, hair "art" (dont' know what else to call it), tattoos, and oddly fitting clothes - oddly fitting because I believe they were designed for the opposite sex.
It was a loud, unruly group; that, had the parents, reduced to standing outside been allowed to see these rows of people, the parents would have cringed and probably pulled their children out of schools that night and put them in home schooling.
The threat was that the State would withhold tax dollars from the Westminster School District if it didn't implement this policy. The policy basically as described would have allowed students, NOW let me remind you these are GRADE SCHOOL children, not even teenagers - to decide from day to day if they were a boy or a girl; and if one day they decided they were a girl (when actually a boy with all the physical attributes of a male) they would be allowed to use the girls restrooms and participate in the physical education classes, including dressing down in the locker rooms for physical education classes. If that "right" were denied them they could then file a complaint, and which if not resolved to their satisfaction would have given them grounds for a lawsuit against the district.
While three board members stood against this, the school administration proclaimed numbers of gigantic porportions of $$ that would be lost to the school district if the policy wasn't implemented.
Once again, a local city council person in conjunction with a well known education attorney crafted an "implementation policy" which the state really couldn't reject, but did not entirely implement the intent of what O'Connell's office had passed down to be implemented.
Nevertheless, here we are several years later with all kinds of ridiculous bills including the one about making sure our history books reflect the positive roles of gays and lesbians in our history (now mind you some of these historic figures are dead and you really don't know if they were gay or lesbian, but it could be implied that they were).
Sheila Kuhle - if you want to read about the irrepressible "Zelda" you can go to this site:
http://www.spa.ucla.edu/seniorfellows/main2.cfm?d=xr&f=sfdisplay.cfm&id=275
Has been responsible for a multitude of legislation regarding gay and lesbian issues in California. Many that attempt to influence the children of this state on gay and lesbian issues.
What I want to know is just how, beyond "sex education" does this benefit our children? A social indoctrination in our public schools is unacceptable.
Yes, by the way - I know it was authored by Leno, but Kuhle is responsible for so many more bills I thought you might like to be on the lookout for any legislation she offers...take a look at her background...
Gays and lesbians should have equal rights as anyone in our society.
We should love them and pray for them as we do for others(or for ourselves, sinners)...and also remind them with compassion that God calls their life style a "perversion".
