This is embarrassing.
For California's outgoing Republican National Committeeman Tim Morgan, that is.
Morgan recently sent a letter to District Attroeny Tony Rackauckas, on RNC stationery, supporting the release of convicted murderer Paul Guardado. Rackauakcas responded with this letter dated August 4:
You can read the entire letter, including the details of Guardado's crime, here.
Memo to Morgan: next time someone asks you to write in support of releasing a convicted murderer, do a little homework first. And don't use RNC letterhead.

Morgan recently sent a letter to District Attroeny Tony Rackauckas, on RNC stationery, supporting the release of convicted murderer Paul Guardado. Rackauakcas responded with this letter dated August 4:
Dear Mr. Morgan:Ouch.
This letter is in response to your letter written in your capacity as the National Committeeman for California in support of the release of Inmate Paul Guardado, who was convicted of a particularly brutal murder in Orange County.
California Penal Code section 3003 requires that upon parole an inmate be returned to his original county unless it is "in the best interests of the public" to have the inmate parole elsewhere. As such, it is more than likely Guardado will be released in Orange County, where you do not reside.
You indicate in your letter of support written on Republican National Committee stationery that you are unfamiliar with the facts of this case and that you wrote the letter based on the recommendations of others. As one charged with the safety of the people of Orange County, I am disappointed that you made no attempt to learn the true facts, which are readily available through public documents or simply by contacting my office. learning the facts may have persuaded you not to support the inmate's release.

I would be interested in seeing the actual letter Morgan wrote. This is an embarassment. I can't believe he would write a letter without looking into the matter more. I wonder out loud who asked him to write the letter.
Thank god he has been replaced.
